My Scooter has lost his hair on his hind quarters Hello, all you Yorkie Groupies! I'm new but looking forward to sharing thoughts and stories about my little guy. Of course, I'm here because I have a problem. Been to the Vet and had tests for Thyroid, all was well. However, my little guys has lost the hair on his hind legs and up into his side area. No itching, scratching or digging. Just "GONE". He was neutered last month, been taking heart worm meds for three months and I applied Frontline for the first time at 6 months. He is 8 months now. Any ideas? He doesn't seem to be uncomfortable. He just looks a little bit "bald" in the back. The rest of his coat is ok, he has "a pretty fine coat" on his body. From the neck up, around his head, face and chest, his coat looks just perfect.

Thank you for your nice note. I'm afraid my "abilities" with pictures is not very good. I'm going to have my son take some pictures and download them so you all can see my baby. He's my life! I mean my Scooter, is, my life. My son, on the other hand, can be a real pain! Only kidding! Karol

sounds like the same as my yorkie chance..we had him fixed at 8 months of age and ever since then he has lost hair on sides hind legs and some around neck and rest is very thin except on face and head area...where he was really soft before now his hair feels very coarse! we had him to vet and they done thyroid test and skin scraping and all is well...said skin looks healthy! they said he could have got stressed from surgery but anesthesia should have been out of system after 30 days..but he is 1 year old now and still having this problem but not any itching or anything..i really think it came from having the surgery as that is when it all started so if you find out anything more on yours please let me know as i am getting nowhere!!

Thank you for your reply. I have limited abilities when it comes to "pictures". My son is coming over (later) and I will ask him to take some and post them for me.

Kayla's hair is real thick. I have noticed some little long strands of hair on the carpet just not much but here and there. Called the breeder and ask her if she thought I should put her on vitamins. My schnauzers have always took vitamins but Kayla is just 10 mo. old and I just haven't started them. Ordering some today though. Maybe with your baby it could be just something lacking in the way of vitamins or minerals. Hope its something not to worry about. Personally, and this is just my own thing about Frontline and all the other stuff they put out with chemicals galore in them, I would not use them for nothing. Scares me to use something like that as much as the recalled food. Good luck with that little one.

I am so glad to hear that you stopped the Frontline. I know some would disagree with me on it, but, its putting poison right into them. We also have 2 mini schnauzers beside our yorkie and one of them within an hr. of having frontline put on her, was dragging her leg and foot turned under. Scared me to death. Vet said it was neurological. Yeah right!!! Isn't it funny she has had no more problems.

My Jersey is a year old and she has always had thin hair too. Earlier, in the year I noticed that her hind legs and her feet had barely any hair. Our vet actually noticed the feet and thought she had been chewing at her toes, but I told him no this is how it's been. Have you checked you Yorkies ears? Do they have black in them? If so your Yorkie may have skin allergies. Jersey has allergies and I'm told this is why she has thin and sparse hair and also this is why she has the heavy black wax build up. Allergies go to the ears and cause the black wax. Check his ears and see. I can clean Jersey's ears a couple of times a week and still the wax keeps coming back. By the way welcome to YT. Elaine
