| Barking in the afternoon... Hi y'all! So my little Barnaby is adorable, and I love him to death! Everything is going pretty well, but.... During the day I have to leave him in his pen with his crate, toys, etc., as I have to work! I play with him for at least an hour or so before work, and then I do get home at lunch (and let me tell you, it's a huge schlep and I am exhausted, but it's worth) and play with him for about 1/2 hour, get him to pee, etc. but I don't have a lot of time, so have to leave pretty quickly to get back to work. I have a petcam set up, and he sleeps pretty much all morning, but have noticed that in the afternoon, he has a barking period at about 3:30 PM, and it's LOUD. My neighbors must be hating me. Though he does quiet down after a while and go back to sleep. He doesn't bark at any other time when we're with him, it's just this one period of the day. ANy ideas of how to keep him amused? I left toys, some of which I know he plays with. He doesn't seem to like the Kong toys, which I was hoping would keep him occupied. But feel like he needs something more. ANd unfortunately, I can't give him my presence all afternoon, much as I'd like to! Otherwise, he is a fabulous little puppy, and I am just so happy to have him in my life! :-) |

| It's probably something he's hearing outside, maybe kids coming home from school or neighbors. I would leave a radio on for him and see if that helps.

| I agree with the radio or TV on when you can't be home . It will block out any outside noise and make him think he has company ,. we always leave a radio on when we go out and the boys are in their pen or kennels . |

| When I had my daughter I noticed she would have this crying fit around 5:00 everyday. The doc said it was built up tension from the day. Now Mika has those evening barking spells too, and I just let her do it. I figure it was much the same.......too bad for the neighbors (They may be glad she's gone to Atlanta)

| Yeah, he seems to be pretty much fine all day, so maybe something startled him yesterday. He's so new, I am still in an amazingly paranoid state about everything he does when I am just watching him on the computer! Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens! I have been leaving the TV on, maybe I need to find a quieter station. Barnaby should be very caught up on the Young and the Restless and Beverly Hills 90210 on the Soap Network, hahaha! |
