| A puppy on my doorstep.... Ok, so Tucker and I are out front of my house playing in what little yard we have. I have seen some dogs around my house for the past couple weeks now. Obviously one of them had had puppies recently, but I had never seen one of them...until today. The mommy and puppy come trotting right up to us and of course I just go crazy over the puppy. I give the mommy and the puppy a little treat (because I can't stand the thought that they might be hungry) and then figure they will go home, but the mommy just runs off. I'm not sure what she heard or saw, but she just leaves her little baby boy on my doorstep! I think he must be old enough to be weened because he would try to nurse and she wouldn't let him. He also ate some dry dog food without any problem....It's just killing me! I can't believe his mom would just leave him! I've been watching for her all night to come back and I spotted her once down the street. I walked the puppy down to her and sat him down, but she ran off again and the puppy clung to my leg, not even trying to follow her. My problem is I don't have a yard to keep him in. I live in a townhouse that allows small pets, but I don't know if he will be small for long. He's probably not going to be huge - the mom looked like a lab/beagle mix or something...she's solid black like a lab, but smaller. The puppy is a brindle color and looks a lot like his mom except for the color. If anyone is close to Williamsburg, London, Richmond, or Lexington, KY and wants a puppy, please get in touch with me. I've made him a bed on my back patio and he's sleeping soundly there. I so wish I had a huge yard to keep him in...he's such a sweetie! |

| oh what a predicament. Can you tell whose dogs these are in the neighborhood? I just don't understand people letting dogs run. Good luck finding him a home

| Wish I was closer and I would offer to foster him! I LOVE the brindle dogs. 5 out of my 6 fosters have either been brindle or had brindle markings Have you tried contacting a rescue to see if maybe they can take him in?

| I will get a pic of him when I get home. It may be later tonight, but I'll be sure to post then. He is so sweet! I SO wish I had somewhere to keep him, but it's just not safe around my home to leave him outside since I don't have a fenced in yard. I really appreciate you looking for him a home. He deserves a great one! |

| is there any place you can call and find out if they have an owner? Maybe the town? It would be a good start.... MSPCA???? should be something... what if there are more puppies and no one else is caring for them?????

From your description, the puppy's mommy knows that she is unable to care for her puppy, sensed that you are a caring person to be feeding a stray and thought that her puppy is best left at your care. She wants to be close to her puppy since she's been around but doesn't want to be too close to tempt her puppy from coming back to her. Poor mommy, I hope someone finds her and gives her a loving home because she definitely deserves it, if you can find her again, please send her to a rescue that can help rehome her! If I live close enough to you, I would definitely be there to help you out!!! | |

| Ah....I think the mamma dog did that on purpose. She knew you are a caring person and knew you would do the right thing by her puppy.

| He found a home! YAY! My neighbor took him to her mom's home who has a huge yard and loves animals. I was SO happy to hear this when I got home. I had been worrying all day about what I was going to do. Thanks to everyone who responded! |
