| Please, I need advise,, real dilemma... Ok as you may know, Bailey comes to work with me everyday, since i got him, he is now 1 year old,,, k... I may have the opportunity for a new job,, BUT, I highly doubt I will be able to take him, and its to far to even come home at lunchtime. SO my question is.. 1- how do you think he will do with the new arrangement? will he be as devastated as me? 2- He is only in his crate when Im gone. But never for more than 4 hours at a time. (But BF said he could let him out at lunch time) 3- what is the longest they can HOLD IT?? without torturing them? I know people who have dogs hold it for more than 8 hours, but I think thats too long. JMO. I might be a little premature, Hence, I dont even have the job, But its something I have to consider,,, if they hire me. Any advise would be appreciated.

| I think maybe if you start weaning him into the situation it will work out...like leave him home for an hour and go do an errand till he knows that sometimes he's alone and it's okay? Also I have a somewhat similar arrangement except it's for the 2 days that my bf and I are both at work...the rest he is eiter home or I am!! I don't crate Maximus but rather i gate him off in the living room..with his wee wee pad and his water/food... I leave at 8:30 and my bf comes home at 12:30 to feed lunch and spend time...he then leaves at 1:30 and comes home at 4, Maximus has been doing this since about 13-14 weeks!! Maximus usually goes to sleep around 10pm and doesn't wake up till 5:48 at which time he poops..so I would say 7-8 hours they can hold it!!Good Luck

| Well, I Am Sure It Depends On The Money, Benefits, Etc. But, How Long Has Bailey Been Going To Work With You? Charli Bear Goes To Work With Me And Has Been For Over A Year Now. I Am So Fortunate To Work For My Husband, So I'll Never Get Another Job. I Know It Would Break My Heart If Charli Had To Be Home All Day By Himself. Do You Have Anyone That Would Be Able To Kinda Babysit A Few Hours A Day For Awhile Till He Got Accustomed To A New Arrangement? Even If It Was At Their Home? Don't Really Have Any Good Advise, Just Feel Bad For You About It. I Sure Know How I Would Be, Fretting Just Like You Before Even Knowing I Would Have The Job. |

| I don't like leaving dogs in a crate while I'm gone. I let me dogs stay in my kitchen, dining room and hallway (all tile floor in case of an accident). But then again, my dog's are wee wee pad trained. Maybe you can put down a wee wee pad for him in case he has an accident.

| I know he'll be fine, I just wonder if I will... To answer your questions,,, he has come to work with me since 8wks old. He has been in his crate for 4 hours at a time. I'm considering leaving him out,, on occasion, I just worry about , given the opportunity, he might GO in the house, ( all carpeting) he has never gone in his crate, so, I don't want to ruin it. Yet he sleeps with me and has never gone during the night, but I do know, if he jumps off the bed, hes ready to go out. I might try blocking off certain areas and see how he does, being allowed to roam. Thanx for your thoughts. and yes the money and benefits would have to be better, in order for me to leave, the way it is now, I get to bring Bailey, I have internet and a tv, and its 13 blocks from my house.... thats pretty good,, but MONEY TALKS!! Maybe in the end I could use the offer for leverage here. and end up with more money and get to stay here,,that would be the perfect answer!

| It sounds like he's really trained well. Why not get an exercise pen? They're awesome! Plus, it will give your baby more room than a crate. Check out www.petsmart.com and/or www.petedge.com You can put his bed, food and toys on 1 side and his a wee wee pad (just in case) on the other side.

| How energetic is Bailey? My Bruce is far too high energy to be left alone all day and the nature of my job is such we cannot really have a dog in the office, nor can a dog come to law school with me, people in these environments do not seem to understand he is my son in a fur coat...Anyway I take him to daycare and he loves it!!! He gets to play with his friends all day, they give him lunch, he is supervised and gets an hour of individual attention, and when I pick him up ready to be cuddled! I love it and he loves it! |

Here in Alaska he goes to a place called Artic Tails. Basically the same services minus the grooming, and little extras like pet taxi service, and it is a whole lot cheaper...Only $250 for June-August!!! Last edited by Bruce's_Mom; 07-27-2005 at 11:19 AM. | |

| Ha--- that was what I was thinking...lol, but I would be worried every second about something happening...and that someone/animal wasn't happy, lol...I could never do that kind of a job but I admire those that can!!!..I would be like the principal wth all 100 kids in my office cuddling and playing!!

| LOL....that's an idea...start your own daycare....but seriously, our doggie daycare is $10 a day here. Ringo has gone once, but he does board there over night and loves it. They don't crate them all day. They take turns letting the big dogs out and the little ones to hang out in the front room. It's playtime them. Call your kennels and see if they have daycare, but make sure they aren't kenneled constantly...I mean you could do that yourself. When Ringo goes there he is out of the cage more than he is in it. $10 a day isn't bad at all. It's not fancy, but he loves it. |
