| Question about what Lily is doing This may sound like a dumb question and if its been asked before, please forgive. Do females "hump" things? Lily is nine months old and has started humping my DH's arm! Is this normal? I know that it has to be a dominance thing, but is it normal? Do females do this as well? (she also squats and lifts her leg to pee! ) Maybe I just have a weird one! Thanks in advance!

| she's not alone.... Hope does it too, but only to Tootie and only when he has a toy.... I have heard it is showing dominance of some sort..... and I had a boy dog who squated and a girl dog who lifted.... strange as life is..... haha

| Lucy didn't do this - she had plenty of other habits to breakbut it seems that there are many on here who have the humping issue...

| Thanks for the responses! I feel a little better knowing that she isn't some kind of weird, hump crazed maniac! I suppose in their looks, actions and personalities, they are as unique as we are!

| My Shelby humped her lambswool baby for years. She loved that thing to death. I was told that it was showing her dominance and affection. I think I heard it from Ceasar the Dog Whisperer.

YT Addict | I was going to ask this exact question. sassy has been spayed and is 7 1/2 months old and just last week was humping her favorite toy and i almost fell out, i could not believe she was doing such a thing. i had never heard of a female doing this. i feel better now knowing sassy is ok and did not get a sex change during surgery. ha ha

| Lola was spayed nearly 8 moths ago now and she still occasionallly humps her big brother Tino. I think she learned the humping by watching him have "special time with his stuffed doggie" and just copied him...as with having to "mark her territory" when we go for walks just like her big brother does. My silly little tomboy!!!

| My friends yorkie started doing this out of nowhere. She noticed her doing it one night that her anal glands emptied while she was humping her toy. She immediately stopped and hasn't done it since. I think she was trying to releive her anal glands. She talked to her vet and the vet says it was only a dominance thing and had nothing to do with the glands. But it seems so coincidental that she stopped as soon as she was able to empty the glands. Though the vet did tell her to make her stop and not let her keep on, because she could hurt her back, if she continued. Luckily I have never had that problem with any of my dogs, I pray that my good luck continues.

| Its a dominance thing. When I first rescued my mom's yorkie/chi from the shelter she would want to hump my arm when we were playing. THen when I adopted Laney she wanted to hump her too. As I spent more time training her and let her know I was "alpha" of the pack, her humping stopped.
