| Are Yorkies Lonley If There's Only One? I Was Wondering What You All Know About This? My Now Nine Month Old Yorkie Seems To Be A Little Lonely For Canine Companionship. Why You Ask? Because She Gets So Excited When Our Dwarf Cat (her Size 5#) Comes In The Room And She Tries Desperately To Play With Her. My Little Girl Is My Constant Companion And She Is Never Without Me. I Take Her Outside Several Times A Day And I Bought Some Toys And She Just Doesn't Get As Excited To Play With Me As She Does The Cat. What Do You Think? Should All Yorkies Have A Live In Friend Or Will This Ruin Our Special Relationship?

Donating YT 11K Club Member | I feel that they are. I don't know for sure, but if i were to be gone a lot i would feel bad if i only had one to leave it by itself, i would feel it would get real lonely. If the person is always at home with it then i think it would be okay and not feel as lonely. I have 3 and they play a tons and seem really happy and close. When im not here i know they play and get into all sorts of things together, they seem much more content that way

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I think canine companionship definitely provides something that we can't. Eddie's personality changed when we got Jack. And Jack's changed a lot when we got Rusty. It wasn't all good in the beginning, by my viewpoint, but in the long run it made them all better, more social dogs. That said, I don't think there's anything wrong with a one-dog household if that works best for you. Dogs adapt to their environment, and they can be perfectly happy being the center of attention.

Crosley's personality did change when we got Wrigley ( she was 4 1/2 ), but she became more loving to us, so that was great! We just brought home a 2 1/2 year old girl, so we are waiting to see how it will change Wrigley who is almost two! They do have a relationship with each other we don't provide, but I agree it's what will work best for your family!

| I also want to ask this question. My Jini is always lonely when I am not home. She won't play with other people other than me. She won't sleep without seeing me in her side. Thats what I love with my yorkie. I can feel she cares for me. |

| Well, there is no improving on Mike's answer. I'm sure Ginger was perfectly content when it was just her. (Well, just her, Kirby and Fun Kitty). There were some issues to work out when Bernie joined our family, and yes, Ginger has changed. She has become more independent and rarely bugs me to play anymore. (Why play with mom when she's got a nutty brother to play with?). I wouldn't change my decision for anything. Good luck deciding what to do!

| There are always pluses and minus' either way. If you're home most of the time, I think one is fine but if you're away at work during the day then it's great to have a companion for your yorkie. |

My furkids Donating Member | I feel a lone yorkie is a lonely yorkie...In the beginning (like Mike said) it wasn't such a good thing but, as time went on Sadie learned to love and play with her new baby fursister.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I had always had a one dog home and they did fine, seemed more bonded to me. Now I have 4 and Ithink they love having canine company and they are never alone. They have a whole little hierarchy thing going on that is so fun to watch. It's like a real family. So I think they adapt to whatever situation you have.

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Id say depends on personality too but With as much of a meanie Bella is...I truely think Diggy added to her a lot. She plays a lot more and they are ALWAYS near each other. Cant be one upstairs and one down they have to be in the same room at all times.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | I think as much as a dog loves their people...there is something to be said for a companion to do....dog things. The people do not want to stick their nose in that nice hole, nor pounce on caterpillars...or sniff and roll on dead stuff in the yard. I adore watching them run and play together.

| i seriously considered a second yorkie. my guy is very attached to me. based on observation when we visit other dogs that i feel he likes being the only dog. i make sure we go to the dog park and he hangs @ my moms with her dogs a couple days @ week when i work long hours. he really likes all the attention from me and kind of gets jealous when i play with other dogs. plus..the financial side. double the cost for 2. and 2 are less portable if your york travels or shops with you.

| I like the single dog, but have found that the more the merrier. We now have 3 of them and a large dog. They all play togeather and spend time finding toys and chasing each other around in circles. Its funny just to sit and watch. But they are still very personal and love to have time in our laps and sitting on our shoulders. Its amazing they all can get there at one time and share. Do what you feel you want to do.
