YT 2000 Club Member | I had a BIG scare today But it was not about My Jeter. Another Yorkie named Gracie almost got hit by 2 cars while I was outside today! Her Daddy usually walks her down to the school to get his kids. I live by a public school's 8th grade building, and have a catholic elementary school that is accros the street from me and also behind my house is the 4 -12 catholic building, so it is real busy at dismissal time by my house. I had Jeter out side with me waiting for my boy's to walk home. Well, Gracie daddy was carring her today because he left her collar at home but he had the leash. He sees us out side and came down to say Hi, he sat Gracie down in my front yard to see Jeter and Gracie started to walk away to the driveway and he told her to stop well she took off for the street a car stopped but only because a child ran to help get the dog not good either Well Gracie run under a van that was parked in front of my house. Her dad went to get her and she darted out back in traffic and almost got hit again! but this time her dad is the one to stop the car from hitting her! She must of been scared cause she went back under the Van. My heart is up in my throat by now, I really thought she was going to get killed!! My oldest son had just got home from the public Jr High building and had seen what was going on, He came over and I handed him Jeter and I then went to the front tier and sat in the grass and called Gracie to me. Luckily she came to me. When she got to me I scooped her in my arms and hugged her and yelled I got her to her owner. He was so shaken up by all this and he said that this was the first time he has ever had her out of his yard with out her leash, and Never again will he take the chance. I am still not over all this happining, and she is not even my dog! I can't imagine how Gracies Daddy was feeling almost loosing his girl. I did used this as a learning aid to my kids on why Jeter is always to be on his leash when taken outside!!

YT 2000 Club Member | I wasn't too sure she would come, but I figured she thought it was a game of chace and I had a better chance if she thought I was going to play with her in some way. I am surprised I was able to think quick like that because all i kept thinking was she was going to get run over!! I really felt bad for her owner, he was so shaken up! They are nice people and Gracie is well cared for and loved by the family, they would of been devastated if anything would of happened to her. She is also an older girl, 6 years old, so he thought she was fine off leash like that, but he said never again!

| My heart almost stopped just reading this! What a scarry thing but a happy outcome. A valuable lesson should be learned by all who read this ... thanks so much for sharing! Chances are if not for your quick thinking and sitting down the outcome could have been devistating. I just have to share a similar incident ... my friend and her husband were travelling and came upon an accident. A truck had gone off the interstate and rolled down an embankment. They slowly passed and then realized the traffic was stopping again. A little Pug was in the road ahead and was frantically running back & forth in traffic! She screamed for her husband to stop as she threw open her door and ran for the pup scaring him more. She promptly plopped down in the middle of the interstate, calling to him. He immediately ran and lept onto her lap ... she hugged him close and ran back to her car. She handed him over to those who were with his owner ... the man in the truck! I have always believed that getting down to their level is more calming than anything for freightened animals! Good job!!

| You both must have been frantic. We can never be too careful with these little ones.
