| Vomitted and not himself, sleeping on sofa Hi please help, I posted in emergencies and no one answered. I just called the vet and he will see Barclay at 10:00AM. He just drank some sugar water, peed outside, a tiny bit. I have his poop from this morning and his vomit which I will bring to the vet. Am I overreacting???? He had his heartworm pill on Saturday for the first time, could it be this???? My baby is almost 4 months old. Yesterday his appetite was down and he cuddled much more than usual. He ate breakfast and pooped normally three to four times outside, solid, no diarrhea. He slept the night as usual and is playful off and on. Out for walk this morning he was himself. I went to take a shower and he was in his confined area with his toys playing. When I came downstairs he vomitted most of his breakfast. Yesterday, while outside he ate a couple of dandelions. The vomit looked like his food that he just ate and no strings, or anything I could see that he ingested. I am worried. Is this normal for them to vomit. Should I call the vet? Thanks for any guidance you can provide. I am just a nervous mom. |

YT 2000 Club Member | I'm not sure if dandilions are toxic to dogs or not, plus I don't know if your yard was sprayed with any pesticides. I hope he'll be alright, glad you're getting him to the vet, please let us know what they say.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I think you are being a GREAT Momma! First, it is great that you had the foresight to save the vomit and poo - I always write on the plastic bag what time the specimens were from as well; saving these can be very helpful for your vet. Second, it is not uncommon for dogs/puppies to have upsets. But, for puppies (vs. dogs) - it can be more significant - so while it may be nothing - it is always a great idea to bring your baby to the vet, if you can. What did the vet say about eating the dandelion? Has he eaten anything now? If it were me, I'd probably go ahead and bring him in, if I could.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I did have a yorkie once that got sick from his heart worm meds so it could be a possibility, but the vet can tell you for sure. Roxie ate a bit of a dandelion the other day and was ok. Keep us posted.

| Vomitting Thank you everyone! I don't know what I would do without YT. This is the first place I turned to after i cuddled with him and settled him on the sofa. He is a bugger outside, I am constantly picking things out of his mouth, it's so hard because he's so quick!! He picks up rocks, twigs, paper . . .anything in his path. I would have to run ahead of him to pick everything up on the sidewalk before taking him for a walk. No matter how much I say no and sweep the item out of his mouth he bolts for the first thing that shouldn't be on the sidewalk. I have an appointment at 10:00AM. I am counting the minutes. My poor baby!! I looked up dandelions and they are not on the list of toxic plants. So I don't think that is it. The grass dandelions and twigs that he has played in is my own and has not been treated with pesticides. I really think it could be the heartworm pill. He hasn't been the same since I gave it to him. It's interceptor, has anyone else had any problems with this heartworm medication? I'm a nurse and taking care of puppies is soooo different than patients, LOL! Plus, I love this little guy, he is usually so playful and hyper, it's so sad to see him lying around. I hope he will be OK, please say some prayers for my little guy I will let you all know what the vet says and again THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I feel such a bond with all of you, funny, my little furbaby has brought such kind caring people into our lives!!! |

| I wouldn't say I have had problems with the HW pills, but Rusty does seem to feel bad the day I give it, so I do believe in our case the pill makes him a little sick. He is fine the next day.

| Home from the vet Hi everyone! We are back from the vet. He had a full examination with the exception of bloodwork. No parasites in his stool, just alot of pollen and twigs. She thinks he may have ate something outside that upset his tummy. She didn't feel it was the heartworm pill. I was telling the vet that I would have to sweep the sidewalk before letting Barclay out for a walk because he picks everything up, rocks, twigs, paper. I am constantly sweeping things out of his mouth. She suggested that he may have "pica" which is craving everything and anything that is not food. He does well in the house although I have hardwood floors and I vacuum and dust the floors regularly, so theres not much to munch on. But he does go along the perimeter of the room sniffing and licking anything up that is on the floor. Have any of you had a pup with pica. My vet suggested a mask for outdoor trips. The kind that they have at PetSmart. She said he is at risk of developing an obstruction if I don't catch everything he puts in his mouth. Have any of you used the mask? Did your pups grow out of this habit? I feel so bad because he enjoys outside so much. I have tried bringing toys, balls, everything outside to divert his attention from flying objects, dandelions, rocks and papers, but nothing works. I hate to have to use the mask, but if it means his health I am going to do it. Any suggestions??? Or words of encouragement that he will grow out of this in the future? Thanks and I am staying home to watch him all day, she gave me a special diet called Hills Prescription Diet i/d. Have any of you used that when your babies were sick. Sorry so long, just a fretful mom with a first time illness. I feel like when my kids were babies, I wish we had BabieTalk back in the day, wow, it would have been great to talk with other moms and dads! LOL |
