| Rescued Yorkie HELP!!! Have just taken from a dear from her little Yorkie.. Unfortunately, I think this dog was purchased from a "puppy mill" in Kentucky.. Sophie has had numerous problems and has required surgery (Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease). Our dear friend when she bought the dog was possibly at the beginning of dementia and Alzheimers and the dog was carried everywhere. Since our friend lived in a small condo and had problems both of them spent days sleeping and very inactive.. When we took her home Friday she could barely walk, her hind legs are in terrible shape. I've started my version of therapy...yesterday walking/dragging her on a harness for a short walk..past three houses.. then carrying her back home...after resting a bit.. she seems to be much better. Today she walked behind me instead of being dragged and seems very active in the house and happier. She loves being out on our deck in the fresh air.. since she was a city dog, she doesn't really know grass. Her appetite as of today was excellent..she is on Iams. Not only did she eat her tablespoon of food she went to the dish of my other small dog and worked on that until I gave her an additional portion... and kibble. Her eyes need work, she needs a bath and I've used a very soft brush on her one night and I have a comb. She has an eye problem and I wonder if it can ever be cured.. I know she needs drops twice a day.. Oh yes... she appears to have a wonderful temperment.. and although she was supposed to be a tea cup size she weighs about five pound.. Her medical folder is not to be believed. Can somebody give me some guidance in where to start and if I'm doing things properly!! We've had good luck in adopting a mixed breed a few months ago and overcoming her problems.. but this little Yorkie really has physical problems that I want to work on and work with her |

| I don't have any guidance as I don't have any experience with any of these problems. I just wanted to say god bless you for taking this little angel on and giving her a home. I know the love you will receive will be well worth it.

| I feed Maximus 4 tsp of dry kibble 3 times a day he is 23 weeks (almost 6 months) on Weds. and weighs about 5lbs. now, he is wee wee pad trained and I give a vegaetable once a day (greenbeans or carrots) with his meal. How old is your rescued baby and have you taken him to your vet yet to see if he needs a booster vaccination or to see what can be done? GOOD LUCK AND BEST WISHES...please keep us posted on how he does!!

| I am not familiar with those type of problems but I just wanted to say I think it's amazing that you rescued this Yorkie and are going to nurse her back to health. God bless you and your family.

| My only advice is to get your pup to the vet quick for a thorough examination. They will be able to give you good guidance on what to feed and medical guidance if she needs medicine. Hope everything works out. Keep us posted. |

| Welcome to YT. I wanted also to commended you for adotping Sophie despite her health problems. You are a great person. I will recommed you to take her ASAP to see a vet. Also, it might take you a little longer but with patience, consistency and a lot of love you will be able to housetrain her. Her previous owners hardly exercise her due to her own health problems, so slowly you can intorduce her to her leash and walk her. I think your vet is the more indicated to tell you how to manage her care after evaluating her. Once again congratulations on adopting Sophie one and we will love to see pics of both of your little babies. |

| Sophie Sophie has already had THREE operations... and was just at the Vet's last week. I contacted the Vet today and she said that Sophie has an ear infection and an eye infection and there is a letter in the mail to us to tell how to treat and eventually get her to our Vet. I have all her medical records (and some medications) and it would make you sick to see how much our dear friend spent to take care of this dog. Sadly, the last few months I think the dog and she were so depressed...now I need to bring her back to a happier life.. My little 9 pound mutt wants to play with her, but she isn't interested.. I was able to get help about how to take care of her and tomorrow she will get a bath. It's just her being in a depressing atmosphere, not being walked and allowed to sleep all day and night is giving us a challenge.. If we put her on a puppy pad in the puppy pen we have for our other dog she does go.. but since she can't climb stairs we have to carry her down.. I''d like to bring out the real Sophie..and I know it will take time.. she is curious and has been walking around the house.. Please don't thank for for rescuing her...I want her to have a good life.. and if it doesn't work out with us...to pick a proper "forever" home for her. Our friend knows we are animal lovers and have at present four parrots and our little Chuahua/Jack Russel Miix also adopted from a sad situation.. so I know that she take comfort in knowing her "baby" is in good hands.. | You are a wonderful person to take in a dog with so many issues! You came to the right place for great advice! Don't hesitate to post any questions you have. I wish I could help. I've never taken in a rescue but have so much respect for those who do. We have lots of knowledgable people here. Keep us posted on her progress!

| Congratulations! The first thing I would do is have her thoroughly checked by your vet and find out if he/she has any recommendations. If it is just depression and being a "couch potato", I would find out what she would absolutely love as a little treat. We found that our Toto's weakness is Honeycomb cereal and used teeny little pieces of that. We have had her since she was sixteen weeks and I found that if I just waited until she did something good and praised her, she was eager to please [the little pieces of cereal as a reward did wonders especially with the pad training]. Good luck with your Yorkie baby!!
