| leaping yorkies- can be dangerous! Last night my bf was holding Sacha in the couch while watching TV. She won't stay still and she jumped from the sofa to the floor. It was quite high for such a tiny dog! I was so shocked when she did that and it was toolate to catch her.. it all happened so fast.. And afterwards she screamed in pain for quite long.. I was so worried!! Then I checked and make sure that nothing's injured.. and appareantly not.. she still walk straight.. but she was not as jumpy as before... Today she seems fine..it's just when she's in the hyper mood..it's impossible to hold her. |

| My boy is crazy! He scares me to death sometimes. He weighs in at 3lbs exactly and he jumps off the arm of the sofa which is about three feet, I think. I'm not sure, but it seems super high! He's a sturdy little fella, though. The only he hurt himself was when I first got him and he jumped off of my bed (not even a foot to the floor) and SCREAMED and scared me to DEATH. I was sure he had broken his leg or something. Next day, I am playing with him and see his foot.... turns out the brat just bent the tip of one claw!!!! I wanted to beat his little bottom! hahaha That's what I always threaten when he's bad. He's too small, so the half a dozen times he has warranted a whacking, it was with two fingers. hahaha |

| My Snoodles is 3# and jumps off the sofa and bed and lounge chair all the time. It worries me also, but what can one do about it? If you go to pick them up, theyare so fast they just jump anyway. I just hope she doesn't hurt herself! |

| Hello, My yorkie Tinkerbell, "Tinkie" jumps from high places all the time. She hasn't hurt herself yet and do what I can to get to her before the leap. But, it just seems impossible to safe guard her jumping. #1 she is so fast, that I have a hard time catching her when I have to put her in her kennel/crate. #2 she is fearless. I guess my only advice would be not to hold her on the couch anymore. Maybe sit on the floor when holding her till she is an adult and decides she doesn't want to be all crazy and jumpy! ha ha Another thing I do is I make sure that if she is using something as a stair to get up higher, I remove it. She used to use our ottoman to jump up on our very high chair. I removed the ottoman for now. Good luck! Annie and Tinkie |

| That how my Lilli got a cuncusion when she was 6 months that was terrible I had to rush here to the ER vet I thought she was dead when I pick her up off the floor her body was stiff and I held her trying to get her back I think she went into shock So be careful when they are on the couch I will not let mine on the couch at any point in time now because I was crying so hard when all of that happened I do not want to go thru that again nor do I want anyone else to go thru that. | These little one's think they are 300 pounds and have no fear. It is extreamly important to not allow them on high places. To a human 3 feet might not seem high but it is to these Yorkies and can lead to many accidents and worse yet death. Another factor of jumping is Luxating Patella. There are just too many factors with them jumping. The stairs are a great idea and training device, highly recommended. We need to make sure we keep our babies safe for sure!! We as humans and loving owners want them right next to us on the couch or bed. But in a second they leap and bound and all that jumping off things eventually takes it's toll. Grab pillows and throw yourself on the floor at their level, they and yourself will be just as happy and you will know you are keeping your baby safe at all times. |

| another thing that no one has mentioned yet is the possibility of them breaking a leg or tearing ligaments... The steps are a good idea and I think they will use them if they are there.. After all if you had the choice of jumping off the porch or using the steps.. which would you do?.. |

| My husband built stairs up to our bed for Sandy and she always uses them. She's not as little as some of your Yorkies, but she has a bad leg, so I want to make things as easy on her as possible. My husband actually got some more carpet and padding today to build a more sturdy version since it will have to accomidate two dogs soon Everyone who comes in thinks the stair is the most adorable thing ever - Once I get my new digital camera I will take a picture! I figure it's better to be safe than sorry, I'm really protective of Sandy, I won't let her jump on or off the couch or bed, I'm lucky, she waits for me to lift her onto the couch and uses her stairs for the bed. Wow, you can tell how spoiled my girl is!
