Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Yorkie weight Eddie is 7.7 pounds at 15 months and the vet calls him "stout" because he's in good shape, but I noticed on the AKC site that Yorkies "are not to exceed 7 pounds." Not that I would ever show him, but does that mean he doesn't qualify as a "true" Yorkie?

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Whew! I thought I was gonna have to put him on a diet. Now, if he was a show dog, could he compete AKC? Would he just be graded down for exceeding weight?

| The standard is a set of guidelines that show people try to achieve in their yorkies...in other words...it's the "perfect yorkie" which doesn't exist, but when you hear people say that breeders should breed to "improve the breed" that is what they are referring to...breeding to get as close to the breed standard and the "perfect yorkie" as posible. If you are not planning on showing your yorkie then it doesn't matter and your baby is still a yorkie. A precious, loveable baby who is beautiful in every way! |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | That's interesting, thanks. I'm in the process of signing him up for agility school, so I guess that could be a potential problem if we ever got serious about it. Fortunately, there are options other than akc if we get into it.

| To me Eddie is a true Yorkie. Just because he exceeds the weight standard doesn't make him any less of a yorkie. Like others mentioned, the AKC standard is just a guideline. BY the way Eddie is adorable. You can ask I believe Yorkieagility regarding agility. She has a lot info regarrding agility. Good luck. |
