Angry I'm tired of people not keep their BIG dogs on leashes!!

I just took Abbey to go outside and go potty and all of the sudden 3 HUGE dogs come chasing after her!! None on leashes! They belong to this girl who lives above me and I know her and like her but she never keeps those HUGE dogs on a leash and they always chase me/my boyfriend and out dogs!

Geez. Even before I had Abbey the dogs would run up and jump all over me whenever I step foot out of my front door.

Well tonight they all chased Abbey and she just started yelping and screaming. I ran and picked her up and she seems OK. The girl was right there and pulled her dogs off and told me they weren't hurting her, and she was just crying bc she was scared.

I'm so tired of it. I sometimes take Abbey out with no leash bc she follows me everywhere and I want her to get used to not r unning off when she is young.

But if you KNOW your dogs do not behave well off leashes you should always leash them and control them.

IM SO ANGRY IM SHAKING. Now both Abbey and I are covered in mud. And Abbey didn't get to go potty and had to go inside and I'm afraid to take her out.

I don't know what to do bc this girl is my friend but she needs to control her dogs.

If this girl is your friend then just tell her. It isn't fair for her to be so thoughtless, even if they weren't hurting your pup they were scaring her and that isn't good either. Just ask her if she will make sure her dogs are on a leash when she brings them out so that they aren't scaring her. On the same note, you can't expect her to keep her dogs on a lead if yours isn't so you would have to make sure to follow the same rule. IMO

If she's your friend you could try talking to her, or maybe even letting Abbey and these dogs get to know each other so she's not so afraid of them (if they are gentle and well-behaved, despite the chasing). You really can't tell her to leash them though, because if she see's Abbey offleash she might think your being hypocritical, even if you do explain to her how Abbey doesn't run around offleash. Maybe just try voicing your concerns to her. I wish I had more advice for you, but I'm sure some others on here will. I hope it turns out for the best though!

They may not have been TRYING to hurt her, but they are much bigger and accidents happen. What if they jumped ON her? You cant be to careful with our little ones. Do you all have a leash law in Texas? I wonder if you could make an "anonymous" call to animal control? In my opinion it is thoughtless and careless. Give your baby a hug. It could have turned out worse.

They didn't hurt her this time bc we broke it up fast, trust me these dogs are pretty mean and I think they would hurt her if they had the chance. I'm definately going to tell her she needs to keep her dogs on a leash if she cannot control them. I'm also going to start keeping Abbey on a leash so if these dogs ever do start attacking her I will be able to get her away and pick her up as quickly as possible.

My poor baby...

These is leash laws but noone here follows it. Everyone lets there dogs of leashes bc of it's more relaxed dog friendly atmosphere. I mean, just last week we took Nuppy (my boyfriends 25 pound dog) to the park where these is posted signs to keep dogs on leashes and an unleashed pit bull came darting at her. He kicked the dog and screamed at the owner and we left.

And last year, my roommate at the time to her dog to the river and a pit bull that was actually on a leash attacked her dog, latched on to her neck and would not release. They ended up having to pry the pit bull of with a stick. It was terrible and her dog had a huge flap of skin off her neck. Huge vet bill too but she survived.

Now I'm just terrified to even take Abbey ANYWHERE.

I have thought of making a call to my apartment complex bc she shouldn't even be allowed to have 3 huge dogs in a tiny apartment in the first place. It's cruel IMO.

I get angry with anyone who lets their dogs (big or small) off leash in an undesignated area where their dogs can attack or scare other dogs. It happens to me every time I go to the park. My girls are obeying the law, on leash, and others just let their dogs run and do whatever they want. I don't care if it is a neighbor. Buy yourself some pepper spray and have at it the next time it happens. You can also file a complaint with animal control.

I always try to keep Impreza and Legacy on a leash. I know they are young, but I want them used to it. The only time I let them off the leash outside is when were in our fenced in backyard or if Mike and I are out front with them watching their every move. I know that all the dogs around us are fenced in and can't get out so that makes me feel better about letting them outside to play.

I am sorry to hear what you are going through. I hate people unleashing their dogs too as I always keep mine leashed however well behaved he is because you never know when they will see a bunny or a squirrel or anything that interests them or spooks them and run off and get hurt. You should tell your friend about what you feel but in my opinion, you should leash your dog too. However well trained they are, only one mistake that they make can be harmful to them.

I know this is going to sound harsh but I don't mean it to sound that way so please don't take it that way. I understand you want your dog to get used to being off the leash while she or he is young, but in all honesty, accidents do happen and are more likely to happen when a dog is off leash period. If you know these three dogs always run off leash, why would you let your lil one go off leash as well, you're putting her more at risk by not being able to pick her up as fast because you have to run to her to pick her up. Again, please don't take it that I'm coming down on you, I'm really not, it's just, why risk it if you know they are always off leash? As far as the girl being your friend, talk to her, tell her your concerns and ask her to please keep her dogs on a leash, it isn't fair to your lil one not to be able to go potty and enjoy the outdoors because her dogs are not on a leash. We have a leash law her where I live and you WILL get a fine if your dog is caught off leash and causes damage or hurts someone. If that doesn't work and you don't wanna call the dog warden on her, is purchasing an outdoor big kennel within your budget? That way you could let your lil one off the leash in there and step inside and play and run around some with him or her without having to worry about the other big dogs hurting him or her and she or he couldn't run off and get hurt.

I know how you feel!! I've been run down by 2 BIG dogs in my apartment complex. I don't believe the guy just let them loose. And, can you believe he didn't even give me a heads up! You'd think he yell ahead, watch out! But, no! And then after he grabbed them, I hurried away. I didn't wanna put Meeko down until there was a good distance between us. Next thing I know, about 5 mins laters, I hear him calling one of his dogs. I turn around, and here comes this huge dog AGAIN!!! I was soo mad! People are just so stupid these days! They could have been hit by a car! Both times we were far away and they had a good run to get to me.

It's not even just big dogs. I'm tired of people not keeping dogs period on leashes. Some of the small dogs too will come charging at me and my girls if I'm walking. I do not walk them anymore. It's really a shame but I simply do not take them for walks. Luckily I have a fenced yard so I play with them in my own back yard. Elaine

I had this same problem! My neighbors let their German shepard and lab mix run free. Id gone as far as calling the police when I caught them peeing on my bushes a little after midnight. Well, I would have filed a report against them, but they couldn't do it annonymously, and I didn't want to be "that neighbor."

Sooo I went to my county's website, printed off the Animal Control laws, highlighted the rules about dogs being off leashes, etc. I also highlighted fines for breaking these rules. Stuck the papers in their paperbox and magic! No more dogs running loose, and it's been almost two months! And they have NO idea it was me

Not sure if it will work for you living in an apartment tho. But try to find out what your county considers a "nuisance dog." Good luck!
