| Help With A New Baby Yorkie!!! Help me!! We got a new Yorkie two days ago that flew into Logan Airport. He is the cutest puppy I have ever seen, he looks just like a tiny little doll!! But, we have a problem at night and where he sleeps. We try to put him in the crate but he gets really scared and cries and actually got diarhhea last time we tried it. We have been letting him sleep in the bed with us, but he is so small that we are afraid to roll over on him!! We also have a bed on the floor next to the bed, but he refuses to sleep in it. Can anyone help us?? I don't want to train him badly by letting him sleep on the bed!! Another problem we have is he is biting constantly. He loves feet and fingers especially. We have tons of chew toys but he gets so excited he just bites at faces, fingers, anything in sight! Please help us, we are new to the Yorkie puppies!!!! |

| Congrats on your new puppy! It sounds like your baby was traumatized by the flight and that is why he hates the crate. If you are scared of letting him sleep in the bed try putting him in a small bathroom. We allow Lexie to sleep in the bed with us and have for a while (she is seven months) but we started training her in the crate, which we put next to our bed. Good luck and keep us informed on your progress.

| Hello and welcome to yorkietalk. I would keep him in his crate. In time he will get use to it and not cry. The chewing is normal for little puppies you can use some bitter apple to try to get them to stop. I would watch the diahrea though. Little puppies can dehydrate easily so if it continues take him to the vet. Good luck!

| You have to get him use to being in a crate. Put him in for a small amount of time a few times a day. Increase each time. He will get use to it. Good Luck

| By all means crate him. Don't let him sleep in the bed with you because that will cause him to never ever want to be crated at night and the worry of crushing him goes away. My dog is still very mouthy so when he starts to bite on your fingers replace your fingers with a chew toy. That seems to work most of the time. Whatever you do though cease him sleeping in the bed with you. Good luck.

| well, when he goes in his crate he might think that he you aren't comming back, so to teach him, let him go in his crate for about 10 minutes at a time while you are home...when you let him out, reward him by letting him play..do this alot..also about the biting i dont know what to tell you..but i did talk to a trainer at Petsmart and she said that she can train yorkies not to bite easily in one training session! you might want to take her to a class like that (they have private classes too..) if the biting gets worse. |

| Thanks for all the advice, and fast I am impressed!! I have heard that it is bad to let them sleep in the bed with you, but does anyone know exactly why? I think we may try the crate right next to the bed tonight and see how he does. We live in a small studio complex, so if we have to leave him during the day we just let him just roam around because thereis nothing he can chew or break. What are bitter apples and what do you do with them? Thanks again for all the advice!! |

| Bitterapple is a spray you can buy at petco and places like that. You can spray it where you dont want them to bite or chew. We would spray some on our feet when Chachi would bite our feet. Its just kinda a deterent,

| Callie likes to sleep with us too, but we had the same problem...we were afraid we would hurt her. So we decided to let her sleep in our bed until she wore down and got really tired, then we move her to her crate and by then shes so tired she doesn't mind being in there. We just go to bed alittle earlier so we can actually go to sleep about the same time.

| I must be a bad mom because Missy sleeps at the foot of my bed and lets me know when she wants to go out, although when she is bored does chew on things but not too often! |

| Hi! Congrats on the new puppy! What you're experiencing is pretty normal when getting a new furbaby. Mine cried at night for the first week or so. It was so bad that my poor boyfriend had to wear earplugs so he could get some sleep. But I would recommend putting him in the crate at night, even if he cries all night long. In a few days or maybe even a week hey will get used to it. My little guy actually sleeps in there voluntarily now. your new puppy is just going through a stresfult time being taken away from his mother and litter mates, and has probably never slept by himself before either. I promise he will get used to it, and eventually even like it. As for the biting, my little guy is going through this right now. He bites my hands when we got to pet him and he is a huge ankle biter too! So what I've been doing, I got this advice from another member here, is when he bites I dip my finger into this stuff called "Bitter Apple" or "Bitter End" and put it on his tongue. They don't like the taste and then he starts to lick instead of bite. It seems to be working. He's biting less and less now. You can also spray it on anything that he's chewed that he's not supposed to be chewing. Hope that helps! Take care and let us know how things go.

A new surrounding, without familar smells, sounds and litter mates is what he is suffering through. Let him sleep with you I have 5 sleep with me everynight. Place pillows on the floor around the bed in case he decides he wants to get down (this is not usually the case though) him sleeping with you also trains not to pee and hold it through the night good luck and welcome!

| I would use the crate too! when we first got bentley we would put him in there at night and he would cry and cry and cry...I think it took about 2 weeks of this before he stopped.. now he has absolutely no problem going in!! Welcome to YT by the way!!

| Your precious new puppy is going through a lot of changes. I'd put a ticking clock and a snuggly little stuffed animal in the crate with him. You are his family now that he has been taken away from his mother, littermates, and the humans who cared for him every single day of his little life. I know a lot of people do sleep with them, but I for one would NEVER get any sleep worrying all night. Also, you want him to get used to the crate and have him feel like it is his own little haven, his "safe place". Give him a little piece of a treat when you put him in there and tell him what a good boy he is. Have him associate it with positive feelings. In regard to biting, and I'm sure tons of energy.....WELCOME TO THE YORKIE PUPPY WORLD!!! They are crazy little buggers for the first year atleast. You'll have to work on the biting, but it is a normal puppy thing. HAVE TONS OF FUN!!!! P.S. Don't hesitate to ask any questions here on YT, you are sure to get answers. Also, you'll have to post puppy pictures for us to see ! |

| okay here's my advise to you, there is absolutely nothing wrong with letting your baby sleep with you. you will find that most people on here let their babies sleep with them. i have let my coco sleep with me since the day i brought him home he has never had an accident on my bed he learned how to lick my face or tap my face with his paw to let me know he wants down or he needs to go out. i personally find it easier with him in my bed with me. but it is all up to you and what works best for your lifestyle. now for the biting part be very conisitent with teaching your baby not to bite anything other than his toys everytime he gets that "urge" to bite something give him a chew toy right away if he continues to bite you the furniture etc, tell him no and make sure he knows that's a no no. but the most important advice i can give you is be patient with him and be consistent with training and he will get it as he gets older and is able to understand what your trying to teach him better. remember that puppies are like babies they learn more as they grow
