| Noob with Questions Hello all. Lurker for a while finally decided to make my first post. Looking to buy a Yorkie. Will be a first time Yorkie owner. Just got back from a pet store here in IL. Petland or Pet Smart... heck it was like 20 minutes ago and I already forgot the name, LOL. They are asking around $1600 for a male Yorkie. Anyone know what the average price on a Yorkie is? I was with my family so I didn't get a chance to ask a lot of questions. If this is a good or decent price, what questions should I ask when I follow up? Also, anyone of ever hear of this place? They are about 20 minutes from me and also have Yorkies for sale: MiJoys Yorkies Thanks to all who respond. Can't wait for my first Yorkie!! |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Congratulations on your decision to get a yorkie and Welcome to YT! Please don't buy your future yorkie from a pet store, instead look for a reputable breeder. Pet store puppies are usually supplied by puppymills and are more likely to suffer health problems. Also, buying from pet stores only perpetuates the continued suffering of puppymill dogs. For the price the pet store is asking you can find a very nice yorkie from a reputable breeder. I would suggest you go to the YTCA website, they have a list of exhibitor/breeders. Do your research on any breeder though. YT also has lots of good information about choosing your yorkie. You might want to do a search and read the different threads. Good luck on your search and choice and when you find your yorkie, you'll have to post some pictures!

| Welcome to YT! I hope you will have some time to read through posts and experiences of others to help you find the right baby for you. I loath pet stores as all their puppies come from puppy mills-the absolute worst situations There are some great people here on YT who are happy to help you with your search. Warm regards,

| Thanks everyone for the kind words. There is a contact on YTCA that I plan to follow up with. They are local. I'm going to continue to learn as much as I can on yorkies. Today was my first yorkie that I actually looked at. I'll keep searching till I find my little guy. thanks again. |

Before I bought my first yorkie I went to a pet store to see one up close and personal. I had no intention on buying from them but wanted to see them before deciding if that was for sure the breed I was getting. It sickened me that the first words out of the employee's mouth, without me even mentioning it were. "We do not get our puppies from puppy mills, they are from breeders". Anyway, I just wanted to share the price they were asking, it was $2200. Craziness! You can get yourself a great puppy for $1600 and even quite a bit less IMO

| welcome to YT! So glad you have so quickly decided against the pet store route -- there are many good breeders that should be able to help you find the perfect furbaby And you must have been at Petland - they are the horror pet supply store that carries pets. Please don't buy anything there -- you just reinforce the evil they do Petsmart may have animals, but they are from a local rescue group

I read your post but before you go out and buy a yorkie please do some rearch. And PLEASE DO NOT BUY YOUR PUPPY AT THE PET STORE. Most of them come from puppy mills and maybe very sick. You don't know what they have been through. Please do some reading on the forum first so you know how to pick your forever puppy. I don't mean this in a smart way, i just don't want you to make a horriable disstion and then regret it. HOPE YOU LIKE IT HERE, YOU WILL LEARN SOOO MUCH!!!

taking my time as I look for what I consider the "best" pet for me. I had been lurker for some time on this site. It seems the more I read and found out about Yorkies, the more my head hurt... is that normal? If and when the time comes that I find the yorkie for me, I want to be able to ask all the right questions so that I know what i'm getting. thanks again to all. | |
