| question about weight of my yorkie I have a question about the weight of my yorkie.. I bought my yorkie in Thr netherlands and i bought him as a small/medium size,. at least the guy that sold him to told me that he wouldnt be a standard yorkie for sure and that he would be smaller then that.. I asked him that to make sure,. cause i travel alot myself and wanted to have him smaller then usual standard yorkie so he can travel with me in planes and trains. But i must say ,. he is already 8 pounds. and he is 5 months.. he is very cute and not really big yet, but i know he is already a standard size or even bigger.. He is a bigger male.. he is very nice shaped the vet said and he is very healthy.. Do you maybe know if snickers will grow much more ??????? In my opion he is still smaller them my other dogs. i have 2 scottish terriers and they are 20 pounds.. but still ... I also called the breeeder and they said.. well he is a male dog and he will stop growing now.. but the excuse was lame ofcourse.. Were i got him from there wer more puppies yorkies and i couldnt see the parents.. so my mistake etc.. But i love him anyway and just wanted to know.. otherwise i need to get another yorkie in the future and call him Milky way HAHAHAH |

| wow, 8lbs at 5 months? that's already 1lb heavier than the AKC standard of 4-7lbs for yorkies (http://www.akc.org/breeds/yorkshire_terrier/index.cfm). my yorkie will be 5 months old on April 26, and he's less than 3lbs. i don't know how much more your pup will grow, but i've read on YT that yorkies grow the most between the ages of 4-6 months. and that they can keep growing until they're a year old, but not always. i've also read that some yorkies can grow up to 12lbs... but there's no guarantee that yours will grow to be that big. good luck!

| Sounds like he might be a big boy. While both my yorkies growth slowed down after 6 months, they still grew a bit by a year. For some reason, it seems that males don't always seem to get bigger than females in the yorkie breed. I see an awful lot of small males on here. I had a chihuahua that was a big girl. I thought chihuahuas were always small! Now before I buy I really look at the parents and what the breeder has experienced in past litters. And even that doesn't always work. He sounds like a sweetheart though.

| i was told that Caden would stop growing around 5 months . jeez were they wrong . at 8 months Caden was 8 pounds im pretty sure . then he had a big growth spurt from then until now (he's turning 1 on may 7th) . now, hes 12.2 pounds . still looks loike he could pass for 9 pounds . doesnt look thaaaat big at all . no one can tell you for sure, but people here might give you estimates . i honestly think Caden is still growing, but at a slower pace . around 1 year, i imagine your baby will reach its full weight . maybe 13 or 14 pounds ? it sounds big, but they still look quite adorable =] just mooooore to love hope i helpeddd =]

| Hi, even if he grows a little more he will be smaller than your other dogs. Sometimes I am surprized when I ask how much a yorkie weighs, and the owner tells me 10 or more pounds. I have a 5 pound one, and these yorkies don't look much bigger than him, maybe a little stockier, but thats all. Good luck with your Snickers, he may be the full size bar, not the snack size; but he will be delicious anyway

| Yep! Even our "teapots" are still tiny.. at least in my eyes. Sometimes I'm amazed that the standard goes as low as 4lbs and that people even HAVE dogs that are 4lbs. Franklin is 7.5 and I think he's tiny and worry constantly about him getting hurt.

| When I bougth Chewy he wan'st supposed to grow much more than 5 to 6 lbs. Well Chewy decided that was way too small for him so he just kept growing till he reached the 12 lbs mark at the age of 4 yrs but he's the greatest. We all love him to death |

| You have yourself, what we call on YT, a true Teapot! Buddy was 6.5 lbs at 41/2 mos. Today he is 15lbs and beautiful. If your not breeding you may be happy with the larger version. They are in every way all Yorkie but just bigger. Same personality and temperment. Just more to love. Post pictures. I would love to see him. |

| Big Male Yorkie Puppy My mother just got a male yorkie puppy about two weeks ago. He was one of the larger puppies in the litter and the breeder estimated he would grow to be about 7 pounds. His mom was 6 pounds and his dad was 2 1/2. Well, at 12 weeks he is 4.8 pounds and my mom keeps calling me in a panic. She loves him to death and it really will not make a big difference how large he gets to be, but she is wondering how big he might end up. Has anyone ever had a puppy this large and how big do you think he might get? Do they typically double what they weigh at three months? |

There is only one classification for Yorkshire terriers and that is "standard." The standard is 7 pounds and below, not 4-7 pounds. I asked Yorkietalk administration to change the wording in, frequently asked questions, the link you provided because I think it causes some confusion, but they said it just means that most yorkies are between 4-7 pounds. However the YTCA states that weight "Must not exceed seven pounds." So a yorkie may be over standard, but it can never be under standard. See http://ytca.org/standard.html for more information. Other breeds of dogs have different classifications such as the poodle whose classifications include, standard, miniature and toy. All yorkies are in the "toy" classification with the standard being 7 pounds and below.
