| After Oprah -- something to lighten the mood So I'm watching the show now and am bawling my eyes out. It just makes me so sad. I was doing some research on no-kill shelters in my area and this is what I came across. It made me laugh, and since I know all of you are crying, maybe it will bring a smile to your face too. RECENT ADOPTION AD FOUND IN NEWSPAPER Please help! After two long years of being on a waiting list for a dog, we have been notified by breed rescue that, at long last, our number has come up and ... WE ARE HAVING A PUPPY! We must get rid of our children IMMEDIATELY because we just know how time consuming our new little puppy is going to be and it just wouldn't be fair to the children. Since our little puppy will be arriving on Monday we MUST place the children up for adoption this weekend! They are described as: One male -- his name is Tommy, Caucasian (English/Irish mix), light blond hair, blue eyes. Four years old. Excellent disposition. He doesn't bite. Temperament tested. Has had chicken Pox and is current on all shots. One female -- her name is Lexie, Caucasian (English/Irish mix), strawberry blond hair, green eyes quite freckled. Two years old. Can be surly at times. on-biter, thumb sucker. Has been temperament tested but needs a little attitude adjusting occasionally. She is current on all shots, would do best in a one child household. We really do LOVE our children so much and want to do what's right for them. But we simply can no longer keep them. Also, we are afraid that they may hurt our new puppy. I hope you understand that ours is a UNIQUE situation and we have a real emergency here! They MUST be placed into your rescue by Sunday night at the latest or we will be forced to drop them off at the orphanage or along some dark, country road. Our priority now has to be our new puppy. We may need to place the children's sire as well if he does not bond well with

| Thanks! I have seen this before, and it did make me smile to read it again. Oprah was so sad, even though I thought I was "Tuff enough" to handle it, I cried too. I have been active in rescue for many years, and I have recently had a few mill rescues here that I was able to place. The transformation in htese dogs is like witnessing a miracle. I hope I can continue to do rescue for a long time to come. I also hope Oprah will do a follow up story and press the issues a little bit more. To let people know that buying from a pet store will continue to keep the millers in business is a good start, but also follow up to see if her story had any real impact on closing down pet stores. If they were not around to sell pups, then there would be no buyers for the millers stock, and they might choose another "crop" to make a living off of. I saw so many yorkies in that expose! Every time they showed one it took my breath away... Sue & Cricket |

YT 1000 Club Member | Hey there Sue, I was also crying my eyes out while watching her show. I just wish that more people who do get dogs get them Spayed and Neutered. I have heard way to many oops stories and way to many but I just want to do it once stories to know that if you have no intention of breeding to better the breed then get your dogs fixed so that no more animals have to suffer. I hope she does a follow up show as well. I hope to see you and Cricket soon. i may stop by the shop tomorrow will you be there? |
