| grooming fears Tommorrow I am taking Buttons for her first haircut. Please kinda tell me what they will do. I take her and then go back in a few hours to pick her up. Does it take that long? I am nervous that she will really act out. SHe hates a bath and drying. Help calm my nerves

| Lucy, who acts as though she is being water tortured when I tried to bathe her (once) is completely different with her groomer. It depends on what you are having done as to what they do. For Lucy, the first time I took her they asked that they just bathe her, clip her nails, ears and clean her up so she wouldn't be overwhelmed. Hope this helps By the way - What a cute name!

| I am so very fortunate because our groomer is awesome! I know it's scary to Connor (shih tzu) and will be to Cordell (my new Yorkie!), but she loves on them and we are welcome to come in any time. I feel comfortable and know that my babies are in good hands when they are with her. But my baby (ies) know I am coming back and they really show how much Mommy and Daddy have been missed when we go get them! Find a groomer you are comfortable with and you will be more comfortable with leaving our babies as time goes on.... |

| LOL! Max is the same as Lucy yet, the groomer tells me he is an angel and no trouble at all. I would ask about the puppy cut. Max is getting one tomorrow and the groomer said he would have to stand twice as long.

| Hot Rod has only been groomed professionally 2x. I was more anxious than him I think. I could swear that I hear him whine before I left the pet shop next door the first trip. They told me that the 2nd time he did really, really good, he sat and closed his eyes when they were trimming the hair on his face. He didn't seem as clingy when I got him back the 2nd time. Hubby bathes him in between grooms.

| The advise I ALWAYZ suggest is finding a pic of the cut that you like, so that you can show your groomer. EVERYONE'S version of a puppy cut is rather different...and I would hate for you to expect one thing, and the person does another. Cant wait to see pics

| maybe you could bring some of Buttons favorite treats so she has something familiar and tasty to make an uncomfortable situation a little more familiar Last edited by foamdee2681; 04-03-2008 at 03:17 PM. |

| If you do not 100% trust this groomer or do not know them, please stay while they are doing it. Soooo many horrible things can happen at the groomers. I would find out if they use drying cages and if they do is it hot air or room temperature? Do they use a noose to hold them on the table and if they do, do they leave the table even for a minute? Do they routinely express anal glands (you many NOT want this done)? How do they discipline a dog that is acting out (some will just send them home while others may get abusive and of course they won't admit to that)? How long will it take and how long will your dog have to do without food?

| I take both Gracie and Hallee at the same time and it takes her about 3 hours for both dogs. She gives them a bath, blows them dry, cut, nails cut and anal glands done. I like getting them cut a bit short, not a puppy cut by any meants, but it helps reduce the tangles. I do brush them frequently, but by leaving it long it is a daily chore. Our groomer is younger and we love her. She does not like owners to stay because it makes it harder to do the dogs. I trust her 100% thank goodness. But if you are concerned tell her you would like to stay at least for the first visit to see how they do.
