| Sorry to re-post, but I need HELP ok, i picked up Remy friday and he is great... BUT... it seems that he is only great with me! EVERY person that he has come into contact with (my boyfriend, roomates. etc) he has barked uncontrollably at, growled at, pretty much gone CRAZY! So much that people think he is mean and are scared to pet him. I am afraid this is only going to get worse if i don't get it under control now...and i want to get it under control before he may bite someone! any advice or helpful hints would be greatly appreciated! |

| Is it possible he is just really scared in his new environment and will take some time to adjust and feel comfortable. It makes sense that he is okay with you as you're the one who picked him up and is with him - so the only thing he knows to be secure right now. I hope it gets better for you. I also hope more people will chime in here!!

| Yes, I'm sure he is just a little scared and unsure of his new home. Perhaps if you got your bf or whoever to sit down, and then you took Remy in your arms and sat down beside him, all the while telling Remy what a nice guy bf is and how good Remy is and didn't Remy want to make friends...and get your bf to slowly pet him. Do it with one person at a time, and if Remy barks, tell him NO and try again. Don't get up and walk away.. he will think he has won. It may take some time, and there may be a need for a little bribery.. get your bf to have a treat ready. Yorkies will do just about anything for a treat Good luck, maybe someone else will have a few ideas too. Sheilagh

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Is Remy a puppy or an adult? It seems an odd reaction for a puppy; more understandable is he is an adult. But either way, I agree with the advice of firm but gentle reassurance to Remy that BF and others are "okay" and the idea of them offering small yummy treats as a peace offering until Remy learns to accept them. I've seen this done on Animal Planet by the experts. He'll come around, I'm sure. It might be a good idea to enroll him in an obediance class also, in case there is some underlying dominace issue. Good luck, welcome to YT, and keep us posted. We'd also love to see pics!

| I would bet that he is scared. You have only had him 3 days. I would follow everyone's advice and have your BF and friends bribe him with treats. Make sure you give a strong NO if he shows any aggression. Hopefully, with time and patience, he will come around! Good luck

you could try a harness on him when people come by and that way you have control over his actions - little by little he should get used to strangers and other people | |

| Dominance issue I believe when dogs act in this way that it is to do with dominance not new surroundings. #1.Sit on the couch with your bf and your dog. #2. Hand the dog to him with the dog facing away from you. #3. Have your bf place his hand firmly but gently on the dogs back and hold him there being sure not to let him escape until he just lays there calmly. #4. After that, have your bf slide your dog onto the couch beside him (bf in the middle, dog on the opposite side of him then you) and hold him down on his side by his shoulders. This makes you puppy see that this new "pack-member" is dominant over him and that he is not to be challenged. Try this method in different areas of the house. Hope this helps feel free to pm me for anything else. |

| thanks for all of the advice! I have used some of your suggestions (and im picking up Cesar's book today) and he has gotten comfortable with my bf at least. I just moved in with him and i usually work evening shifts so I think them being able to spend time without me once he's off work will be great. I am going to try to get him out this weekend to the park or something so he can get used to other people/animals. thanks again! once i get some good pics, i will post! |
