| Little Mans first shopping trip (long) We had fun well at least I did, Little Man was wore out when we got home. I did have Little Man dressed in his overalls, he looked so darn cute! I had people stopping me, saying he was cute and asking what kind of puppy he was, stuff like that. Then I had people make comments loud enough that they wanted me to hear them (which Ignored, it was hard to that but I did it.) Then I had people stop me and tell me their opinions on dressing a dog. I knew this was to be expected. But I had had enough of it when I was at petco my last stop before heading home. I was returning a car seat because it wouldn't work in my car and thought to pick up a bag of food. I held Little Man the whole time I was there. On my way back up to the front so I could pay for the food. A couple brought in their Bull Mastiffs. The bigger one seen us, the same time I seen him and he started over toward us and was stopped by his owner(which the owner had complete control of them, I was so thankful for that). I was awed at the size of the dog, that I froze! I have never seen a dog that HUGE!!!! Don't get me wrong I've been around German Shepherds (sp?), Huskies, Labs, big dogs like that. Anyways, Little Man being so freakin curious was trying really hard to get out of my arms to go over and see the huge dogs. A lady came over to me and said, "here honey let me help you with your food while you hold your baby and get away from those big dogs." I thanked her and we walked to the front but completely staying away from the dogs. I took care of my business and just put Little Man & his food in the car, when the same lady that helped me out in the store asked me why did I dress my dog? Then she said, "that is just plain dumb and stupid if you ask me." That was it I had held my tongue all day, but that just drew the line for me. I said well thank you for helping me in the store, but I didn't ask you what you think about dressing my baby. I dress him because I WANT to and dressing him makes him adorable and cute. Then I looked at her car and asked her why did she buy the car that she drove?(which it was one of those little cooper cars, personally I don't like them, so no offense to those who have them.) She just said, "well I like it, it drives really good, and.." That's when I cut her off and said, "well that is just plain dumb and stupid if you ask me." Got in my car and left. I was just so upset that someone could be nice & helpful one minute and the next be completely rude. It almost makes me want to just keep him at home unless it's here in town or we go on vacation. There aren't many pet friendly places around here. Oh yeah we went into this boutique, and they had a Chihuahua and it was her birthday and the owners gave out pupcakes (like the ones that are listed here on YT) and Little Man loved it!!! I don't think he even chewed it...it was gone that fast! lol So, I will definitely be making those for special occasions.

| O dear! I'm sorry! I had a lady do almost the exact thing to me in PetSmart on Xavier's first outing! It just practically ruins the whole experience! She had two poodles (who were in DESPERATE need of grooming) and came over and was talking to Xavier and said "Tell your mommy you need a collar not that vest because you are too tiny for that!" I then looked at her and said "He would have a collar on, except I prefer to make sure that I am doing all I can to prevent his trachea from collapsing!" And walked off... People can be so ignorant!

| That makes me so mad! Lil Man was looking so dapper in his overalls and had just had his bath yesterday...(as my mom would always say) they are just jealous......because she doesn't have a beautiful little boy like him!! Don't let her get to you.....I hate people that "rain on a parade"! Dressing them is a ball and makes life fun!!

| Okay maybe I am stupid... Wel I'm not, but.....can a collar really make a trachea collapse? I mean can I put one on as long as I'm not walking him on a leash? When walking on a leash, am I supposed to use a harness? I can't take him out yet, not for quite a while....but this was new to me. Just want to clear it up, so when we are ready we are prepared & my baby is safe!! |

| If used with walking, a collar can absolutely make a trachea collapse. Franklin wears a collar when I'm home (and supervising) for ID in case he were to slip out the door. When he's in his playpen, I take it off because there is no chance of him escaping and there is the chance that he catch it on something and hang himself. When walking, you should ALWAYS use a harness to reduce pressure put on the trachea.

I don't use collars to attach the leash to, I have vests for my guys with a D ring for the leash. This way, I don't have to worry about them choking with a collar. I do have collars for them for their tags, and I put them on when we are going somewhere. But, I don't leave their collars on them all the time. When Jake first got big enough for a collar, I kept it on him all the time. One day he gave us a huge scare...he tried to get the collar off and, in the process, it got stuck and almost choked him. After that, I stopped leaving collars on. It's just too scary to me and not worth the risk. Both my dogs are very different. Jake hates anything to do with clothes, so he won't leave a collar on. Jackson loves clothes and doesn't mind a collar. But, I still won't leave the collars on. They play so hard and rough with each other sometimes, it just scares me that they might choke.
