| Nervous Nellie Just got a 2 year old Yorkie two weeks ago. (My first dog) She is sooo nervous, shakes and pants in the car, and all new and public places. Her first 2 years were spent inside a house. She had outside access but no walks. Never taken anywhere. She is not completely housebroken (as I was told)Any ideas.....Thanks |

| WELCOME TO YT!!! You will love it here. So tell us more about your yorkie. Was she a rescue dog? Most small breed toys have the shaking and stuff. Sometimes they are either, excited, nervous, scared, cold. It could be anything. Don't worry it will subside. As for potty training, it takes lots of love, time and patience. If you want her to go outside, your choices include taking her out every hour or so and hope that she gets the picture. If you want to train her on wee wee pads inside, you can barracade her in a small area, which will force her to use the pads. Then let her out and praise her like crazy when she goes on them. Usually within 1/2-1 second of her going on the pad, is when the praising should happen, so they can associate the treat/praise with their pottying on the pad. So why had she never gone out or anything? What about her previous owners?

| Welcome to the club both of you! I hope that your little one is settling in well. She does sound a bit nervous, but that's probably just because she's way out of the element that she has been accustomed to for the past 2 yrs of her life. Most of us got our babies when they were fairly young, so it's easier for them to adjust. You didn't mention why you got an older dog though, was she rescued? But please don't worry and most of all don't give up hope. She will eventually begin to relax the longer and more time you spend with her. Just be sure to show her lots of love and positive re-inforcement if she makes a mistake. She's probably scared out of her wits, especially since she has never been out in hustle and bustle of the public before. It's only been a couple of weeks, give her time to adjust and she will come around and you will be the best of friends yet - I promise you! Good luck!

| She was not a rescue, I purchased her from a woman who had several dogs(for Breeding) and she sold Sabrina to me because she said she is sterile. I want her to potty outside. She has had several accidents, less lately, but I take her out all the time. I will have less time for walks in a few weeks. She knows she has done something wrong when she has an accidnt and comes cowering to me. |

| Take a pocketful of cheerios when you go out and let strangers give her treats. Treats and praise from you are great training tools |

| Welcome to you and your little girl. I feel so sorry for any animal treated like that..I also want to say this-your baby does NOT know when she does something wrong ie: bathrooming in the house. She has no idea that it is wrong. We have a tendency to project human emotions and mannerisms onto our animals. That is human and sometimes it is true. If you come in up-beat and smiling and praising that baby AND, have a pocketfull of Cheerios or something as small--darn, the treat I buy just left my mind!--- and come in, tell her she is mommie's good girl and you have missed her. Walk around and look for the accidents while you are praising her. Then, just clean it up and spray the site..If you want her to go outside for potty, keep her confined in a space that has NO carpet like the kitchen..DO NOT CLOSE HER UP IN A ROOM but use a large crate or X pen. Is she home alone for long periods of time?? I had a rescue who was probably the same age and she was deathly afraid of everything. I decided my objective was to get her to let us hold her and pet her and not pee in fear. Then, her potty training started. She died last year as a well-adjusted girl at the old age of 14-15 1/2 yrs. She was a perfect pet for my grand-daughter..They grew and bonded beyond my wildest dreams. |
