| Piper's here, now what? I picked Piper up at the airport late Friday night and she is a very sweet, lovable little girl! I tried to post pictures on Saturday but my login had timed out by the time I went to post. We had company on the weekend so I wasn't able to get back on the computer. I will try to post pictures again tonight when I'm home. Now for all the questions. How do you get your Yorkie to hold still long enough to take a decent picture? She's very cute but won't stay still long enough for the digital to take a good picture. How do you keep them from looking like a ragamuffin 2 minutes after you've just finished combing? I'm guessing this is not possible, at least at this age (15 weeks). She's had a cough since getting of the plane but I've posted this on the Sick forum. Her breeder thinks it's canine influenza? I'm trying to keep her away from my Springers so they don't catch it. She's going to the vet today for a check up and I'll ask the vet. I'm planning on keeping her in our kitchen (with baby gates) when no one is home. She'll have food, water, a bed, toys and lots of papers/peepads. She'll be able to see the cats and hopefully won't be too lonely. If I didn't already have two dogs (not including Piper) and four cats, I would've gotten two Yorkies to keep each other company. Does this sound okay? I was planning on covering half the floor with papers and gradually making the area smaller as she learns to pee on the papers. At night she sleeps in my bedroom in her crate. I'd probably have her sleep with me except she's not potty trained yet. That's it for now. Sorry for the long post. I'm sure I'll have dozens of questions yet. Thanks everyone! |

| Congrats on finally getting Piper!!! I hope his vet check goes well. As far as how do you keep them still long enough to get a good pic~~~I have the same trouble. But I guess that because they are still new and young that is common. With time it will get better. That God for digital cameras.

Do not worry too much though, terriers tend to look a bit ragamuffin unless they are in the show ring. Just comb daily and make this part of the bonding routine. Soon your Yorkie will come to LOVE being groomed!

| Hi! Welcome to YT and congrats on your new girl!!!! Yorkies, especially yorkie puppies do tend to look pretty ragamuffin shortly after being groomed. Then, when the color starts to break...yikes. Depending on your dogs coat type they can really look a mess. I tell you this so that you don't, like me, keep obsessing on all the pics of yorkies and thinking that yours is especially messy. Stick with daily grooming and baths as needed. There are lots of products, but I've found that with the variety of yorkie coats, what works well for one may not work for another. It's just trial and error.

At first it is easier to hem them in somewhere. I used to always take Jamie's picture in our club chair using different colored blankets as the backdrop over the chair. That away when I was sitting on the floor in front of the chair he had nowhere to go. Now with one hand aim your digital camera and with the other hand shake the treat bag or make toy crackle. (Please note that when using flash function, press down halfway on camera button before calling your baby's name. If you call them and then wait on the flash they will have already turned another way by the time the picture takes.) As far as the level of your excitement when calling your baby to look at you, start low or by the end of the photo shoot you will look like a lunatic! I know Jamie get bored and will stop looking up for certain noises. You will have to take about 50 pictures to get 5 good ones and 1 great one. You will also have to put in new batteries at least once. Remember treats and praise. Good luck with Piper's pictures! Can't wait to see them all. I hope the vet can make her cough all better.
