| My new baby is not eating Thank You for all your advice!!! I am glad to have you guys helping me. Yesterday Gracie finally came out of her crate , and now she seems calm. She is starting to play with her toys and she even barked!!! But she is not eating , she eats very little and then she goes back to sleep is that normal? Yesterday I gave her 1/4 cup of her food and I still have more than half of it in her bowl What should I do? Anyways here are some pics of Gracie!

| Don't think so......... I don't think you have anything to worry about. My pups did that when they were very young too. Just watch her and make sure she doesn't go lethargic. Do you have any nutrical around? Vets don't reccomend it much, but you could probably give her a little. Let us know how she's doing. |

| new little girl It's so hard not to worry and be over protective when they are so little. I recently brought a new little girl home also. I would mix a small amount of mighty dog in with her dry until she adjusts to her new food. They do not each much at one time. I would feed gidget by hand 4 times a day until she got adjusted to her new home. I also would take just a spoonful of wet food and let her eat it off the spoon a few times during the day.I didn't want her to get low blood sugar. It took about a month before I didn't worry about getting enough food in her. Hope this helps. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | New Baby... I've had my Wylie for 6.5 months now - he was about 2-2.2 pounds when I got him at 10 weeks. It can be very stressful for pups to change their environment and Yorkies can be prone to low blood sugar. If it gets too low, they may feel nauseous and won't want to eat their regular food. There were a few times (on the way to the vet, in the car etc) where I could tell Wylie was scared, stressed and getting a little listless - I gave him just a bit of Nutrical to prevent his blood sugar from getting too low. If your baby's appetite continues to be poor, I'd recommend a bit of Karo Syrup in her water dish - this will ensure she gets some sugar. Her appetite will resurface - but you don't want her feeling nauseous (hence, the Karo/ Nutrical). The Karo/water combo also provides increased hydration for her. Give her lots of love and hugs. And, Wylie loved having a "big dog" - a stuffed dog that was bigger than him that he could snuggle up to (in addition to "Wylie-size" stuffed dogs). He still adores big dog to no end, sort of like a security blanket. Congrats and good luck! Ann |

| Congrads on your new baby. i just got my first yorkie "louie" and he does not eat much either. He does just like your baby. As soon as i fix him some food he will eat just a little bit and then he will go do something else. I have had him since Christmas Eve and he is still not eating alot. He had his vet visit the day before yesterday and i asked them if that eating habit was normal for these terriors and she said yes. they are just like a baby. good luck, ll |

| oh believe me when I say this is normal....I was worried sick about my Nemo when I first got him he would not hardly eat anything at all I thought something was wrong with him....people told me some yorkies are very picky eaters also, and at six months now I am still dealing with Nemo not eating a lot sometimes he will sometimes he want...I keep Nutracal(has vitamins) or you can give them Karo. I would feed Nemo off of a spoon also it seemed to help in getting him to eat....he vet said at that age they should not be eating no more than a table spoon of food at a time......till this day Nemo is very funny when it comes to eating one day he will eat out of his bowel the time he eats he may not, and I have to sit on the floor or his mat and he will eat his food off that....you might have to deal with it for awhile but evenually your puppy will begin to eat better.... |

Yes it is normal for them to eat little bits and go back to sleep. Just like babies, they need to sleep a lot to grow. As she gets older, she will sleep less and play more. |

| First of all it doesn't hurt to be very watchful and concerned when they are tiny and young. Very young pups can take a sudden turn for the worse so keep an eye on her, better safe than sorry. I have talked to many people whem have lost new pups. Bottom line is to trust your gut feeling and if she isn't acting right , take her to the vet. On the other hand 1/4 cup is a lot of food for a young puppy. My adult dogs eat anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 cup of dry kibble each day. Just make sure she acts healthy, is eating and drinking, peeing and pooping and is somewhat playful and alert. And remember that puppies do sleep alot too. If she acts lethargic..get her to the vet. Everyone has given you great advice..but it doesn't hurt to listen to your gut feeling.

| My pup is a picky eater too... I was worried when she hardly eat at all.. and my breeder suggested to give her some baby food mix with a lil bit of finely chopped meat.. and she licked the bowl clean ! After a few days I feed her with the puppy food mix with a bit of the meat again.. I only give her a spoonfull of the dry food... sometimes she finish 'em off... sometimes she doesn't.. and when she doesn't eat at all, feed her by the spoon , or with your finger (with the baby food) and she'll lick it clean . hope it helps ! |
