Too Fast for Me! Well, I guess he's always been fast, but I can't catch Yoda when we are playing tag (well I guess I'm always IT!) in an open field or grassy area. He can turn on a dime and he's very alert when I'm close and will always out smart me. I think I get a better workout than he does! Hahah

Some kind of STOP command or STAY command might help. Yoda doesn't stop until he's really outta breath, but he does listen to STAY pretty well. We usually go to the middle of a big open park to run around, or a patch of grass that we know he won't escape from.

I think Yorkies just get soooooo focused when they are in tearassin' mode that they don't HEAR any command. And if they do, they assume that what they are doing is MUCH too important to stop doing. They are pretty fearless when in tearassin' mode and probably would take on a truck! We just don't let Higgins run around offlead without us outside with him. He is waaaaaaaay too fast for us, so when we hear/see a car coming down our ol' dirt road, we get the pups right up by us, preferably in hand. The best control we have is Pogo. I can call Higgins and he will absolutely ignore me. But when I call Pogo, I not only promptly get good ol' Pogo, but Higgins comes right with him so he doesn't miss out on anything. I tell you, the best dog trainer in the world is a good ol' dog who is already trained!

Stop trying to get me to get another Yorkie Higgin's Mom! :P Yes, I always try to get Yoda right next to me when a car or bicycle or anything comes near. It's not worth risking at all. He's just too fast and small!

We didn't mean to let Toto outside ... usually she stops like there is an invisible door right at the threshhold ... but she just shot outside! Pat almost fainted when he realized she was ripping around the yard ... he yelled at her and scared her out of her wits! She natuarally came tearing back inside ... Pat right on her heals yelling "I'm calling a trainer" and reaching for the phone book! It could've been really funny if it hadn't scared us both so badly! Found a trainer that will come here to the house and Toto will have her first "lesson" next week! It's either that or ... "Red Rover, Red Rover, send Pogo right over!!" So, Higgins Mom ... wanna send Pogo down for a few weeks to teach this little "snot" a few things??

| Fasteddie ... Stop & Stay are what we want Toto to learn. Hopefully the trainer will help us with these ... she learns things so quickly but I think she thinks we are just kidding when we try these commands!! ;-)

Yup, if your yard is near the street, it's essential for Toto to learn sit and stay and stop... Once we looked away for a second, and Yoda snuck through the bushes and got to the street! Scared us witless as he just sat in the middle of the street looking like it was his territory (well, it is, but of course the bad drivers around here don't know that!). :P
