| And the neutering questions begin!!!! Okay so I spoke to the lady at Bide a WEE and she told me Maixmus will be coming home with a round thing around his neck after the neutering...can I put a belleband on him and/or a onsie so that he can't touch where the incision was and take off the head thing or would you recommend keeping it on?

| Sammi had that lampshade (Elizabethian collar is the vet name) on her when I took her home from spaying...She was totally knocked out from the drugs, so I took it off after we got hom...My vet made her a "onsie" out of ace bandage, so it was breathable... Here is a pic of Sammi in her lampshade and one of the onesie my vet made

| I don't think the collar is necessary unless the dog is licking, scratching, or bitting at the stitches. The hardest part for me was keeping them from jumping on and off furnitures. |

I think belly bands hurt because they press on the area that is sensitive from the stitches.

| When Annie was spayed she wasn't given an e-collar and didn't have any bandages on her stitches or anything. We had the surgery done on a Friday so that we could watch her the rest of the weekend. We made sure she didn't try to lick the stitches or anything. I don't remember her trying to go at them or anything . But if she tried to lick them, she just got a stern no, and then moved her attention to somthing else.... |

| Brutus didn't have that collar either. The vet said he would keep an eye on him after he woke up and if he was licking he would put the collar on. When he was home if I saw him going for the stitches I diverted his attention and he stopped.

| He is being "done" on a Monday and my bf has off Tues and Weds. and I will bring him to work with me on Thurs., Friday will either be his first day alone UNLESS he is still not looking good in which case he will come to work with me again. I think Maximus will FREAK with the thing around his neck which is why I was wondering about the onesie...BUT how does he pee or will he be able too? I am really paranoid and I don't know who to call me regualr vet or the Bide A wee one..lol

| Samantha- I don't know what your or your vets schedules are like, but maybe you can try to reschedule the appt to Friday, so that way you can be home with Maximus over the weekend... I'm sure that you have everything all figured out, and he will be fine... But maybe for piece of mind so you're not worrying when you're at work? |

| I think it depends on the dog. Syd had the e-collar at my request because I couldn't keep her from bothering her stitches. They were itchy when they were healing and she wanted to bite at them. However my childhood pet (a poodle) never had anything over hers and never bothered them. Syd hated the e-collar...but in the end that was a good thing because it depressed her enough that she didn't try to play until a few days after the surgery. If I were you I would watch him the second day (the 1st he'll probably be to doped up to do much of anything) and see if he tries to bother his stitches. If he doesn't take the collar off and see how he is. I wouldn't leave him alone without anything on though. Just in case. Ps. Make sure you bathe him right before you take him in for his appointment b/c you can't bathe him again for 10 days after. I didn't know this (although it seems like common sense in hindsight) and Syd was VERY stinky by the time she was able to get a bath. |

aawwee this picture of your baby with the onsie reminds me of Gus in the hospital. His was red. Poor little guy had to wear his for a week. He looked so tiny and so sad. He was the happiest guy when we were able to take it off. I took pictures of him just incase I had to take the owners of the other dog to court. Thank goodness they were kind and did pay all cost. So I never did take the film in. luzangela428, Gus didn't come home with a collar. And there was no stiches. It was a microscopic surgery. He was very sore for like 3 days. And he did lick the area once in a while. But other then that he was just fine and back to running around in about a week. I don't think the collar is necessary. Good luck and hope Maixmus feels better quickly!!!

| Believe me I am just now realizing that either way it would of worked out the same way...lol..I was thinking that somehow he was getting more time home with someone with a Monday appt. but not so it is the same either way .... oh, well next week will probably be a pointless week anyways since I will get nothing done at work (maybe I can get a couple of half days)...
