| I'd want any female of mine to be at least 18 months to maybe even two years old and had at least one heat before. She would also have testing done prior to breeding.

| I agree. Two heats at a minimum and between 18 and 24 months old. They need time to fully develop their own bone structure before supporting a puppy's growth. I think they are better mothers when they are a little older too. My question is how old for the last litter? I say no older than 4-5 years. What do you think? Katelin |

| LOL..it doesn't sound like your too excited. Would you both be able to accept the lose of your female if something went wrong? Would you be able to pay anywhere from $500-$2000 for a c-section? Can someone be home with the pups 24/7 for the first few weeks and bottle feed every couple of hours if necessary? Have the dogs lines been checked for lp, ls, ct, lcp and have the parents been tested for the same? Just a few questions to ask before breeding...

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I can understand why he wants to give these precious dogs to all the people he loves, but you need to do a lot of research before you decide on anything. One thing I learned is that the toy breeds are much more difficult to breed than the larger dogs. Mom's are much likely to need a caesarean section (a very expensive, over $2000.00 and dangerous procedure). They also, don't have large litters like a big dog, some times it's just one or two pups. Male dogs that have mated will mark for the rest of the life and both sexes will have more health problems later on. Yorkies have been over bred and many suffer from inherited disorders, it may not show up on the mom or dad, but because both carry a gene for it the puppies could have it. Very few people save or make any money breeding. Responsible breeders are lucky to break even, but they do it because they love the breed and wish to improve it. It's much cheaper to buy a good dog than breed one. You sound like a very good mama, and I hope you do what's best for your baby.
