| Potty training I just got my puppy about a month ago. She is 3 months old tomorrow. I work and get home about 3pm. I or my son takes her outside at that time. I put her behind a baby gate in the hall way down stairs with a potty pad which she uses during the day. She has been sleeping in the bed with my husband I at night . I put a pad on the floor in there but she does not really use it. Should I section her off at night like I do during the day or what? I don't want to confuse the poor puppy but she is pooing on the carpet and she has peed on my comforter again that stays at the end of the bed, so I have to take it to the cleaners again. I just need some advice to eventually have her trained to go outside and not in the house. Frustrated! |

| At three months old your puppy can only go 4 hrs at the most with out using the bathroom, and that is pushing it. She may be afraid to jump from the bed at night to use her pad. She is better off secluded in her own sleeping area or you try to be aware when she starts moving around take her to her pad. I really don't expect much until they are almost a year old. Mine still will have goofs, when they have to go they have to go. Sometimes we get busy and not realize how much time has passed.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Welcome to YT! In my opinion three months is still too young to expect total control in a Yorkie. While cleaning your comforter probably made it look better, it does not take out the odor that a dog can smell. You need a enzyme cleaner for this. If the puppy can smell any urine smell, he thinks it's a pee pad. The puppy going at the END of the bed is actually a good sign. Is there a way for the puppy to get off the bed? We have a chest at the foot of the bed, and kept a pee pad on it for when Joey was young. Other people have suggested stairs. Personally, I would suggest a washable comforter until your puppy was older; I love sleeping with Joey!

| Your puppy is precious. I like to sleep with my puppy also. The comforter was folded over on the cedar chest at the end of the bed. I was just wondering if I should confine her until she learns to go on the pad near the bathroom in my room. She definitely can get up and down. She is a pepper and I love her but it is frustrating |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I really would remove the comforter and replace it with a pee pad. Voilà, she's trained! We added steps and a pee pad on the floor; eventually he used the pad on the floor. Soon the pad was relegated to another room, and I replaced the pee pad on the chest with a cushion and I have had no problems.

| I'm still working on potty training with Holly. At night, she sleeps in a small carrier on my bed. She has wet her carrier 2 or 3 times, all my fault for not waking up in time to take her potty. I trained Gracie this way and it worked out great.
