| What is the average weight for a puppy? I tried using the size chart given in the sticky post but I just couldn't wrap my brain around it. I brought little Oliver to the vet yesterday and he weighed in at either 2.06 pounds or 2 pounds, 6 ounces, I really can't be sure. He's about ten and a half weeks old, does he sound small to you? My grandmother used to breed yorkies and she said he's very small, but he doesn't look very small to me anymore. Probably because it seems like he's doubled his weight in the past two weeks I've had him, and he's visibly grown a lot. His size doesn't really matter to me as long as he's healthy, I'm just curious. |

| I don't think there is an average weight for a puppy. That would depend on the size of the mother and father and even that would not really determine what a puppy's size will be, just approx. Sometime they grow way bigger than expected too. Your puppy sounds small but I'm far from an expert. I was told if you take the puppy's weight at three months, double it and add 1lb that will give you a close approx weight. To give you a chuckle, Buddy was 6.5 lbs at 14 1/2 wks big for a Yorkie, today he's 15lbs. Yours sounds perfect. A standard Yorkie, per AKC, is 7lbs and under. Yours fits that bill. Congratulations and good luck. Post some pictures of your little guy when you can. We love pictures. |

| He sounds like a healthy baby to me, and as long as the vet didn't have any concerns, your puppy is definitely fine size-wise.
