| Just got a Yorkie and have a question... So my family just got a 10 and a half month old male and for the first day it played with our other dog (a 10 year old yellow lab female) great. Then yesterday afternoon all of a sudden, literally within the span of a few minutes, he discovered that he has the ability to hump her. Now all he does is go at it. It is comical of course since all he humps is air since she is so tall, but i had a question whether or not we can get him neutered yet. I have heard conflicting accounts that you should wait a year for developmental reasons, and I have heard that as soon as they are sexually mature (as of yesterday at 3pm) that it is ok as well. Obviously there are some pretty informed posters on this site so I thought that I would ask for some advice. Is 10 months too early to get neutered and if not, will this end his nonstop lebido? thanks |

| Welcome to YT. You can get him neutered. He is definitely old enough. Good luck.

| If I had a male, he'd be neutered between 12 and 16 weeks. Most people neuter by at least 6 months so he's definitely old enough

| Thanks for the advice! the ways it sounds from reading some other threads, it will be a toss up whether or not this will "cure" him. hopefully it will. |

| It may not stop the behavior completely but it should deter it quite a bit. Rylie still occasionally tries to hump Lacy even though he is neutered but before he was neutered he was constantly trying to hump her

| I had my little boy neutered at 8 months. I was told by the breeder to wait till a year too, but he lives with my female Skye Terriers & was already showing an interest in them. I decided to get him done before they came back into season as there's no way I wanted cross breed puppies from my rare breed Skyes He's been fine. He did still try to hump them, but less so once the hormones had subsided after 8 weeks. Five months later, he still plays humping, mostly with my Yorkie bitches, but they do it to him mostly He gets fed up & takes himself off to bed |
