| Adult Yorkie's w/Cotton Coat!!! Does anyone have a picture they can post of their furballs if they have a cotton coat? I am thinking that Blaze might turn out to have more of a cotton coat then a silky coat. When we got Autumn she was 5 1/2 months and her coat was already very silky and laying nice (she had never been cut either) Blaze on the other hand is 5 1/2 months right now (has had a haircut) and his coat is not laying silky at all. He is still very much a puff ball! So I am just comparing what her coat was like at that age w/what his is right now. I would love to see some pictures of adult yorkies w/more of a cottony coat. Do you keep them in more of a puppy cut all the time w/a coat like this? Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it!!! Amie

| well,, Daisy is 18 months and her coat is NOT silky,, and i dont know if its whats called Cottony either,, me,, i like it like Cotton Candy,, matts at a breeze or movement,, hair trimmings blow in the wind like the blown sugar when making cotton candy and matts together like squishing cotton candy,,, the reason i've kept her in a puppy cut so long,, first by a groomer,, and now by me i kept up with it (the time i spent strictly on brushing her coat in 1 week),, it was OVER 20 hours, ,and still she had matts, so i decided enough was enough,, i wasnt happy and neither was she,,not enjoying trying to keep the matts at bay,, we went to the puppy cut, took her to the groomer,, and picked her up,, looking like a strange different dog,, but, ,we've gotten used to it,, and she and I are both happy about it,, plus she stays much cooler,, she is hot natured I look forward to pics ,, descriptions of cottony coat,, thanks!!

| May I ask? first i'd say Thanks to you for posting the grooming videos,, gave me courage to do it! but i had to run the clipper in the opposite direction to cut Daisys hair,, hers is baby fine,,,not the fluffy or curly type,, simply would move, not trim, so i clipped upwards to cut the length off,, then finally clipped down with the hair to smooth the cut,, i'm pleased (enough),, saved $30 and she was not stressed at all!!! BTW, i started out with the longest comb,, and went down down down til i finally ended up using the shortest comb to groom her! great difference in coats i tell ya!! again, ,thanks so much so i guess Daisy's isnt cottony then,, not sure what to call it,, beside Cotton Candy!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Look on my avatar or my photo albums here - my Chanel has a very cottony coat.....I did a terrible job cutting her down a few months ago and she really needs a professional cut but lately I just haven't had the time to take her to someone - and since I moved I don't even know WHERE to go - I don't trust too many groomers - Sea Breeze Oil by Plush Puppy is THE product I use on her hair after a bath - it really helps it lay flat and moisturizes it better than anything else I've used. |

| I guess Pixie's coat would be considered cotton. It's always pretty fluffy after she gets groomed and can get curly around her bottom. I've never had to deal with tangles or matting and she has worn it both long and in a puppy cut. Here is a picture of her right now with longer hair.

| Their coats might change Sometimes the puppy cottony coats grow out after their puppy stage, because one of my yorkies I purchased out of state was like that. He had a really knotty, cottony coat when he arrived and I didn't know what to do. But eventually, as his adult coat grew in, it was a lot thicker and silkier. I talked to several breeders and they same the same thing, that the puppy coat is very different from the adult coat. Good luck with your baby! |

Thanks a bunch for posting those pictures. Blaze's coat looks a lot like Layla's in the last pic of her! Its funny because Layla and Autumns face look so much alike w/Blaze's body! So Layla is Autumn and Blaze mixed in one!!!

| Here is Ziggy at 1 year, just back from the groomer. He has a very thick cottony coat that mats very easily. I spend about 1/2 hour to one hour each day brushing and untangling his hair. I am considering a puppy cut but just love the full coat.
