| do yorkies get cold? You know how you see little dogs with sweaters? I heard an NPR report last year where a vet said that most dogs don't need them. Cricket, 8 months, has a shorter coat because we keep him in a puppy cut. It's been really warm in Georgia this year, but the last two days we've had a cold kick. He still never wants to come inside and doesn't seem cold, but when he get inside where it's warm, he starts to shiver. What's up with this? Do I need to use the coat we've got him? Also, since he's only 3.5 pounds, we can never ever find one small enough. Cheerio, mayerae23 |

| My archie does get cold a lot when he is outside, he would still shiver when wearing a warm coat!! He is 5 months old and about 2.5lbs and I found that the xxs size fits him, I think you should be ok with an xs or maybe even a s (depending on the brand), walmart and petsmart have a good selection of coats and sometimes you can find them at target too (although they sell out pretty quickly). Hope this helps!!

| Seeing as yorkies have hair rather than fur they do feel the cold and heat. Imagine their body as having the same sensations as your head. If you feel the cold, then so do they. Most dogs have fur, with undercoats that keep them warm in the winter, and cooler in the summer, but yorkies have only hair. |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | The key word...is most. Yorkies have single coat hair...not fur. The smaller they are the more suspectiable to the cold. Even my big girl, Ramsey (10 pounds) shivers if she's outside without a sweater or coat. Doesn't even have to be THAT cold....60 degrees...both mine have on sweaters.

| I would think he should wear the coat...he's very small and the smaller ones often get cold easier. Mine also wear sweaters inside because it's chilly even indoors in the winter. How long does he stay outside?

| Yes, they shiver! I feel Zoe and Zorak's feet and sometimes they are chilled! We live in Arizona and keep them in sweaters anytime the highs are under 60 degrees. When we go into stores/resturaunts I keep a blankey with them so that the air conditioning does not chill them. a light tshirt in a very light/white based color is great for reflecting the hot sun on summer days.

| That's great adivice--thanks y'all! I usually don't let him out for very long if it's cold. Another thing we did the one time it snowed here this winter is we would let him run around and play in the snow for a few minutes, then take him inside and wrap him up in a warm towel. I'd just stick the towel in the microwave, and he got all snuggly in there. That dog is seriously spoiled, by the way. |

| Mine gets cold so much that he shakes so badly. I sometimes had to put him in layers and I make sure we are not out for too long at a time. I can't even stand the cold myself with layers of clothes brrrr...

| yes! Kash is very prone to getting cold. in the mornings, he won't even stay outside long enough to go #2, especially since the grass is wet with dew. he usually stands on three feet. i guess he would rather only three feet be in the cold grass than all four! rofl! anyway, he's only 1.5 lbs so hopefully as he grows he'll be able to stand being in the cold for longer. we live in florida so the winters are short!
