| Crate Size for New Yorkie Hello to you all, What size crate do you recommend for our new yorkie puppie... our breeder said that she will get to be around 6 lbs. full grown. We would like to get a crate that has a divider in it to aid in potty training. The crate we get would be used for a long time so we would like to get the correct size... any suggestions? |

| I didnt use a crate for mine as far as potty training. I used an ex pen and just put their small crate in there so they could take a nap in private and feel secure.

| lvmyyorkies set up wouldnt last 2 seconds with my boy........ we use a crate now, we got this one http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...=1121660594452 we got the smaller size for 39.99 ...... we used to leave a little space with a baby gate like lvmyyorkie.... but like i said, it didnt last long.... he was scaling the gate when he was little and then JUMPING over the gate when he got a little older I have a water bottle set up inside the crate so he gets fresh water at all times, and i also made a crate pad and blanket for him to have in there as well... also an indestructable chew ........... My boy is roomy inside his crate and he is abotu 13 lbs now (i dont know his exact weight) |

| Maddie's crate is about 24X18" and about 21" tall. At first I was going to order one off the internet, but then someone told me they had them at walmart, so I got one there. It looks like the one Orinskye has the link to. They say you are supposed to get them so there is just enough room for the dog to stand and be able to turn around, but I wanted mine bigger than that and Maddie loves her crate. There is room in there for a doggie bed and enough room in front of that to put water and food if needed. Maddie is 6 pounds and nearly 10 months old, so about the size yours should be full grown. |

I did the same thing. Upstairs I got a VERY small crate to start with. You don't really want to encourage potty-ing in their crate. Even with a divider. There should be a good amount of room between potty area & rest area. The crate at night should help them learn to 'hold it' so they can work on bladder control. During the day I used a crate that was a little bigger (I did buy 2; bought them at Big Lots) without the door in her play area so she had a place to sleep. Over time, I took out the crate from her 'yard' and put in a regular snug bed. But I didn't stop her night time bed. Hope that helps!
