just curious ok....... i see some pictures of yorkies with a really dark ewoky kind of face, not at all like the typical tan face with black along the head...ect.... my question is this: Do these yorkies that are darker in color have a different kind of coat? or have their coloring turn out any differently when they are full grown? If you look at "my little beaker boy" in teh gallery, you will see what coloring i mean.... I like teh darker look, i think it is really interesting and different, i was just wondering if they came out darker when they are mature or if it doesnt make a difference at all.........

hello orinskye, im kinda new at all this yorkie stuff, but have love yorkies ever sence i was a little girl... i did notice myself the my little beaker was so much darker at first, if he didnt have pappers i would have probably questioned weather he was mixed or full yorkie. after i got him i still went on the net looking at other yorkie pups too and just kept looking at them and then him, i too wonder if this mean that his color will be different when he gets older. well darker or lighter they are all such beautiful little angels and god bless them all... you have a little sweetie pie yourself...

thanks .... he is sweet (when hes not being a terror).... i find the coloring issue very interesting because the coloring on yorkies can be so different from pup to pup.... i know my toby's lil brother had the same darker coloring as (is his name really beaker????)..... and i was just curious if this had anything to do with a genetic anamoly (sp?) like with the "pati colored" yorkies, because i find those dogs very beautiful as well......

Coat type/coloring B/c I am still trying to figure out all this stuff myself .... some reading material for anyone interested in how a yorkie's coat texture and coloring corresponds to what is and is not called for by the AKC standard is below. It's thick though, so go ahead and let your yorkie curl up in your lap to nap if you intend to read. I think Luca Dean has the skin coloring Joan Gordon describes, but still not sure. I read somewhere too yorkies which end up with the "proper" coat are kind of straggly looking as pups. Dean's got that going for him too. He's black and tan. Silky or kinky, wooly or cottony, Dean's beautiful to me, even with his awful cut! http://dandugmore.netfirms.com/spicecolor.html http://members.aol.com/CYorkie/GeneticsCoatColor.html

wow thanks for the info......... but im a little lost as to what EXACTLY a cotton coat or silky coat or wooly coat actualy FEELS LIKE,,,,,, i think toby has that silly "saddle thingy" they are talking about, because he has all teh right skin pigmentation...... but the hair in his coat is REALLLY close and dense, and it feels a little rougher than a true "silky" would (but i find his coat easier to manage than the silky coat).... so that narrows it down to a cotton coat or a wooly coat.......lol....... so take a wild guess which one he is...

yes his name is really beaker... its all i could think of after all of the other names i did have but hubby laughed at.. anyways, im not sure what you mean by (sp) cause like i said im new at this yorkie stuff. i do go on the net almost everyday looking up stuff about them, and still learning new stuff all the time.... lucyandfred thanks for the websitt im about to go there now.... i was kind of thinking if darker and lighter as pups was the difference of (silver and black) and (black and tan) as adults.... hope web site can tell us... if not... all that will be able to tell us it time.....

I'm giving up on trying to figure Dean's out until his muzzle hair grows back. He's got silver coming in on the top of his head and silver between his eyes and that part is thin ... then it seems the under the chin stuff is thick and smooth ... then his leg hair is thin and soft, not wooly feeling, but tends to mat and doesn't "lay down" or fall straight. So I'm sooooooooo confused! And he ain't tellin'.

orinskye - The issue about the type of hair is what I was thinking might be the difference between why I haven't cut Hercules and you've cut Toby already. We were talking about this in another post, remember?? When I first got Hercules, he looked a little different than Toby's young pictures. And he's already getting really light in the face and he's just over 4 months right now. I'll look for some more pictures of him when we first got him and take some today so you can see what I mean. I guess we'll all have to monitor each other as they continue to grow and keep each other updated to really figure it out! Brandi
