| is it safe to take my puppy out? my puppy just turned 11 weeks yeterday... she is up to date on shots. i believe she gets her next round of shots next week. i was wondering if its okay for me to take her out.. not just in the backyard but like around the neighborhood for a walk maybe or out to stores in a bag etc.. or do i have to wait till she gets ALL her shots done? I want to take her to petco, etc. and have her walk around |

| Ask your vet. Mine said it was okay after their 3rd set of shots but some say they need to have all of them

| Personally, I would wait. There are a lot of germs and diseases floating around places where lots of dogs go. I won't even let my grown up dogs walk in pet stores - they are always in a bag. I'm just too afraid of them picking something up and getting sick. You'll have a whole Yorkie lifetime to take her out... be patient. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i wouldn't go for a walk yet, but you can take her out in her bag. just don't put her down or let her near any other dogs.

| i Think its best to wait and at the very least wait untill your baby has his Rabies shot (i think thats in the third set ) I take Memphis places but only when we are not really gettin out of the car like taking my son to school and the bank drive thru This way i get a chance to "Outdoor Bond" sorta anyway i know that wasnt really helpfull but maybe it would give you some ideas on how to take your baby out without really going out |

| I'd play with her at home for awhile longer. Kennel cough is an airborn virus and with one so young I wouldn't chance it. Two of mine are 3 years old and I still don't let them walk around in any store. I keep them in the cart. You never know if there will be a large dog who sees them as prey, or they can even pick up the Parvo virus on their feet even if they have had the parvo shot. I had a dog once who had had her parvo booster and still got a nasty case of it. Parvo is a very nasty virus. |

But in a purse bag, and not putting to much stress on your dog is ok. Bring water and food, and make sure she is warm enough. (Remember also that those bags can get HOT inside!) One warning... when Chewy was very young like your puppy, we had a few adults just take him right out of my daughter's arms!!! She was 17 1/2 at the time. People love these little ones so much they get excited when they see one and want to hold them. I had to teach my daughter to STEP BACK if some one was zooming in for the kill. When people ask if they can hold our dogs we say it is against our rules because they wiggle so much and could be dropped. Think about how you will handle these things before you go out so you are ready. Can't wait to hear how your first outting goes!!!! Have tons of fun with your baby!!!!

| I would wait, but I'm a worry wart! It always shocks me to be in Petsmart and people are in there with puppies 6-8 weeks old! I would rather play it safe!

| ok i was worried i was being too cautious! good advice.. ill wait till her shots are done... i never thought how I would react to people coming up to me.. i definetly wouldnt know how to handle it. im worried sick even when my friends hold her. Im so afraid they are going to drop her. she is only 1 pound 5 oz! a fall like that would kill her! |

| If your not ready then don't do it. Sadie is now 19 weeks. She is very nervous with anything new. I told the vet and he said get your puppy out and around new things, places, people. This is the age to socialize her. (Not sure what age she was...maybe around 14 weeks? ) She is just a nervous baby. Unlike my other dog Chewy who is game for almost anything!!!

| I would never take a dog for a walk on strange ground until all parvo shots have been given.. It just would not happen with me for whatever reason... I usually scare the hell out of people about parvo.. once you have had it or know some one did that... you certainly change your feelings.. if it costs like $1,200.00 or more to save a puppy that gets parvo..that is if the puppy lives, we need to just ask ourselves is that walk worth it.. then we need to make a decision.. This is only my feelings on this subject.. |

| I would wait! I decided to take Riley out to Pet stores when he was around 13 weeks. He ended up getting kennel cough. It was terrible. Hopefully your pup won't ever get that. Its a pain!! |

Parvo cost us over $1600. And not to mention the heartache of almost losing your baby.. and we didn't even take Franklin outside!! I completely understand you wanting to take your puppy out. Franklin has been out with us in his bag but never have his little feet touched the ground. I too am waiting until he can go outside.. (one set booster set left!) It's so hard, isn't it? Especially when it's nice and sunny outside... Just stick it out.. they have their whole lives to walk outside.
