| what to do I have been thinking about becoming a dog groomer and a vet tech. the vet tech isn't going to happen until the fall. so I thought I would go to school for a dog groomer until then. Well there is a school an hour away for only two months that is $6000 or I can do it online for up to 7 months for $750 they both are accredited. which should I do. the money is a big thing for me but experience is also. chris |

| Hi Chris, I would go to the local groomers and speak to them, find out who they would hire first the local or online school graduate, and if you did do the online would anyone be willing to give you practical experience. Good Luck Cheryl |

| The only concern I would see online is the hands on experience your missing from going to a local school.. Also the response time in questions you need answered are time consuming. |

| Honestly, I don't think those online classes are worth it. You can't learn to groom a dog well by just reading about it and looking at pictures and videos. You've got to get hands-on training. It takes a lot of practice to be a good groomer. So, if I were you, I'd find a school that provides that hands-on training as well

| I agree with everyone... I would rather hire someone with on-hands experience... Maybe you can find something else for a little cheaper??

| I know a few people who went the online route and they're doing great, it's actually rather simple apparently, but then again I'm not one so no clue.

| well my son also said go with the one with the hands on experience and since he's helping me pay for it I am going that route. It does make sense. I just don't want to make the long drive back and forth everyday. but I will be able to work with dogs. thanks for all the input. chris |

| Good Luck!! Grooming is HARD work, but fulfilling! I apprenticed with an experienced groomer in her shop and worked for her. She gave me a certain percentage of the groom, so I was getting paid to learn. Good Luck!!!

| I was a vet tech and they just dont pay enough. I am a groomer and make pretty good money doing so. Petsmart has a grooming academy (this isnt how I learned) and you can work and learn all at the same time. You have to start out as a bather and can go from there. This way your not putting money out and still learning

| Forgot to add I have been grooming for 12 years and love it. The only reason I tried being a vet tech was I had gotten very sick and just couldnt groom enough to make it worth it and tried something else. They call me the yorkie queen at work cause I groom mostly yorkies lol

| I went to petsmart and applied for a bather after I called them about the grooming program. So I hope to hear from them soon. chris |

| You said you were a vet tech but you make more money now. I was thinking of going to school for a vet tech in the fall so maybe I should just stay with grooming? chris |

| It all depends on what you like. I know around here vet techs make almost no money. I have a friend who went to school and has been a vet tech for 15 years and still makes little money. I love being a dog groomer and like I said the money is good. I wasnt cut out for being a vet tech. I cried my eyes out every time a dog got put to sleep like they were my own. I emotionally couldnt handle it

| I guess that would get me as well. I couldn't handle my own being put down let alone someone else's. chris |
