| Why do people get so diffensive if you ask if their puppies are AKC registered? I have been looking for another little yorkie and taking my time. I've been asking questions and so forth. I have now had three different people get pissy with me because I asked if their pups were AKC registered?? One person went so far as to tell me if doesn't make a difference what her pups were registerd as because know one knows the difference who purchases puppies. I was like okay, if you say so. I realize there is a lot of ACA and APRI pups out there. Does anyone else register their pups with anything other than AKC. Not trying to start a debate or anything I promise, just curious as to why people are so touchy with me asking this question when looking at pups.

| Well, they are probably hoping you'll buy one of their puppies (too many people out for $$$) and when you ask that question and their puppies aren't, they get defensive. Lacy's not AKC registered, but all my future yorkies will be (unless they come from a breeder out of the country). A lot of people say registration doesn't matter, and I guess it doesn't for a pet, but I plan to only buy from reputable AKC show breeders from now on so the puppies being registered AKC is kindof a must.

| I don't think I would buy from someone who gets defensive about it. I guess I would be wondering if they are trying to hide something if they are defensive.

| Not sure why someone would get defensive about that but imo the only reason for registering is if they were going to be showing. If the pup is only to be a pet, then why bother with registration? Just curious, not trying to start anything..

| Maybe some people/"breeders" get defensive as they have lost their AKC priviledges due to poor record keeping, among other offences, and had to go to the more leanient, alternative registries such as APRI, CKC(continental) and others. I cant think of any other reason to act "embarrassed or defensive" because the dog is registered with these other "registries". But, then I would never look at anything but AKC or UKC or CKC(Canadian). If you are just looking for a pet to love and are not into breeding/showing, I dont think it matters what registry it is as long as its what you want. I dont get the defensive attitude from the "breeders" though. JMO |

| Thanks for the info everyone. I was a little shocked to as I hadn't had anyone with my shelties ever get that way but most of them were akc. I guess I have lots of new things to learn with yorkie breeders still. I also agree, the lady that go angry, I just appologized and told her I didn't mean to upset her and deleted her email. The other people pretty much hung up on me on the phone. I mean it was a simple question, are your puppies AKC registered? Why get so angry, just say yes or no. I don't know. I was just curious. Thanks for the info everyone again!

| I would personally would not purchase a puppy from a breeder who got defensive about having their pups registered. it makes me believe they have something to hide. if they were charging not alot of money for the dog, then why would they care if it was registered or not? i also, personally, would not buy a puppy that was not registered. breeders sell their pups under either full or limited registration. limited registration means that the pup can be registered with the AKC, however, if it had puppies, the puppies could not. Full registration is if u breed your pup, their pups can be registered. A good breeder will have its pups and dogs registered to show and/ or breed their dogs. When a dog becomes ill, such as liver shunt, they will usually not show and breed the dog anymore. If the breeder shows and breeds and registers the dog, i would feel more at ease that the pup i bought (for a pet) would not have liver shunt or any other disease. |

My babies are my babies.. and I don't care whether or not they are registered.. as long as they're happy and healthy.. that's all that matters to me Then only time I'd care what the puppy is registered with is if I were planning on breeding OR if I didn't know the breeder Now, If it matters to you.. then.. I wouldn't buy from anyone so defensive

| Akc I think maybe a stranger would be offended by someone they do not know asking what registry their pup is with. I mean why would you need that info if you are just looking at someones dog??? (are you buying from them or wanting to go through their breeder? if so say that first) you get so many uppity people who want to claim AKC and the dog looks like Y U C K ,if its a pet and healthy who cares really? the only shame to be had is the breeders out there selling sick dogs and mixed breeds passing them off as purebred.

BANNED! | If you ask me anyone who is breeding should be willing to answer as many questions as their new potential homes need answered. If someone doesn't want to answer questions about their puppies I would look elsewhere real fast. |

| i have puppies now and my arent AKC but they are registered with ckc, apr, napdr, & uapr and whenever someone contacts me i praise them for asking questions because i know they care and are educating them selves before buying and i always end each email with " i am an open book, please feel free to contact me any questions on concerns by email or phone" if they dont ask questions they worry me... if they are truly clueless they worry me...lol i have one guy that keeps calling and he asked the same questions everytime about what color are they, they're yorkies they are born black and tan...and they will stay that color? no colors changel..then he started askig me about breeding and when i responded you want to breed them? he says no no i dont, then he stopped calling ...lol |

| I don't think anyone should get offensive at that question. It seems like in getting defensive they have something to hide... If the breeder was really confident in the puppies he or she would just tell you what club they were registered with instead of getting upset! I think you should look further and find a reputable AKC breeder to get a puppy from, and good luck! |
