| New Yorkie Mommy!! Hello all!! Well lets see, my mom's pup had pups for the first time last september!! She sold lil astro to a friend who we thought would be GREAT!! Well with all the hard work, he no longer worked for her, so now's he's here with ME!!! And the potty training thing is def. difficult but he's doing a lot better!! Just asking for some info about neuter vs. breeding. He's started the last couple days humping, (ugh!) now i figure was the time to do something. He's 5 months tommorrow, on Valentines Day!! Any lil hints or help, please let me know!! All advice is def. accepted!! Oh also, barking when shut up in the bathroom, how do you fix this???? |

| Welcome to YT! Would love to see pictures! There are many things to consider about breeding. It is important to consider the health of your boy, and his characteristics. Do your research. Also, there is a breeder forum on yorkietalk - you can ask questions of the breeders there.

| Welcome to YorkieTalk. You might consider leaving him with a puzzle toy or a bully stick when you have to leave him confined. I am a fan of leaving the breeding to breeders who do health checks, etc.. I would also say that if his marking is already a concern, then the other problems with keeping a stud would also be very difficult to manage. I support spaying/neutering for our pets. It has been proven to help extend the life of our pets by preventing them from trying to "get to" dogs of the opposite sex, as well as a reduced risk of certain cancers. If you do some searches, you will find a lot more information on this topic, since it's one that most YTers feel passionately about.

To the OP...please be advised that breeding takes some serious preparation and is not something that one should just take on lightly. If behavioral traits like humping, marking, and teritorialism (is that a word?) bother you now, they will only increase 10 fold when you use the male as a stud. (And it's not something that neutering will magically reverse the effects of.) In any case, welcome to YT and congrats on your addition. | |
