| Plastic Travel Kennel or Wire Crate When we bring our little guy home next month we will need something for him to sleep in at nighttime on the floor beside our bed. We are planning on buying a small plastic travel kennel for car rides. Can we use the travel kennel for nighttime sleeping as well or do we need a wire crate? He will be around 10 weeks old when we get him.

| I use the plastic one for night time sleep as well. I personally think it's less drafty and he probably feels safer because it's closed in. He loves it. I have to drag him out of it everytime! |

| I use the plastic travel one for sleeping too. I have it packed full of blankets so it's nice and comfy. I think helps when we travel because she's already used to going to sleep when she's in it.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I have the wire crate....zoey loves it. Lulu never complained and loved to go in her cozy nest to sleep. It essentially comes down to cost/preference when you choose one.

| I was also thinking it will make travelling much easier if they are already used to being in it.

| Sounds like the kind I am going to buy. Are any brands better than others or are they pretty much similar.

Both of my dogs sleep next to my bed in their Petmates and we've never had a problem since night one. I also have a wire crate that Cooper uses during the day while we are at work. It stays in the laundry room and he seems to like it. | |

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | We have wire crates that our guys sleep in and plastic crates that they travel in...that way they have more room for when they sleep since they are in a longer period of time but when traveling they are cozy and more confided. This is what works best for us. I also made crate covers for all of our wire crates so that it is not drafty or cold but keeps them warm and dark at night!! I think you need do what is best for you and your little guy!!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | we have plastic with wire door and we put a big bed pillow in there with some baby blankets. He likes being in there but he will also use his burrow bed I got him last month.

| We just bought this one for Wrigley from Petsmart: Amazon.com: Medium Pink Kennel Cab Pet Carrier -... They are actually not going to carry that color anymore, but she had the same exact type just in a different color and smaller size from the day we brought her home. She sleeps in it and we use it for short trips to the vet and groomers. She loves it and feels very secure in it! It's so easy to move around and we are having Sonja from Pocomutt make a cover for it!!

| How about the soft crate? I'm looking at different crates as well since I will be getting a yorkie in a few months. Does anyone use soft-sided crates? Thoughts? I'm seeing them here and there in my internet search. They look so cozy but I've not really come across anyone who is using them. |
