| Beware of the Yorkie! Well, evidently Lily does not want anyone that she doesn't know to come to our house. She barks at everyone that goes by but rarely anyone that comes to the house. I never realized that was because she knew everone. Today a guy came to fix our A/C and she went ballistic. She was barking right at his ankles. I was getting scared that she might bite so I held her. She continued to bark though. I am very shocked that she didn't settle down after a minute. Anyone else have this problem?

| Oh my gosh yes! We also have just lately experienced the same thing with Teddy. He seemed so happy around people but today we had a landscape crew come in to do our yard and he was a basket case. I even took him out to introduce him to the guys and he still wouldn't calm down. I am hoping he is only going through a phase...

| Don't let their size fool you. Yorkies can be fearless watchdogs. Mine are all right with strangers in public but will attack and bite stranger that walks into my house. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Quote:
She won't let anyone but my sons thru the door - I have to hold her or put her gate up in the kitchen...bad thing is ...Cheri jumps the gate and doesn't know HOW to act...she sees Chanel going ballistic and doesn't know if she should be happy or tough. They calm down but I have to watch her with workers in the house...very carefully...I really think she could take one down if she really tried. ps. She ONLY does this if I'm home - When it's just my hubby home and someone comes in - not a peep out of either of them. I guess they must feel he's on his own and needs no protecting. | |

| Both of my dogs do this. It is really bad too because I have a 5 year old daughter and they bark at her little friends that come over to play. I just wish they would calm down just a little.

| Nope, thank goodness. I wouldn't be able to tolerate that, with as many people who visit us. They were both socialized very early on, so they don't know what the word stranger means |

| I'm lucky Coco doesn't bark (KNOCK ON WOOD), unless we're sleeping and she hears a noise. That I don't mind, infact I'm glad for, because sometimes I sleep so deep, I could get robbed and I wouldn't know it. But other than that I've yet to hear her bark at other people or animals or during the day in general. She's 5 months already. Maybe by discouraging the barking, she will stop. Like put her on time out, or ignore her when she barks, say NO! in a stearn voice. Try those. I think since I socialized Coco with people early early on (let family members/friends hold her, play with her all the time) she's not afraid or threatened in any way.

| Snoodles so far loves everyone she meets. Wiggling and jumping on them and going around in circles. Hope she doesn't get to barking. Although, she has been a little nervous since fireworks day! She shies at anything that moves or makes a sound right now.. Hoping she will get over that. Pat |

| Fortunately, we don't have this problem. My boyfriend was very leary about getting a Yorkie because he had heard that they can be yappy little dogs, and he did not want that. So from day one, I would knock around the house and ring the doorbell, just so he would get used to it. And I think he is now. But even when I first brought him home, he never did pay much attention to people coming over to visit or whatnot. He really only barks when he is playing, which I don't mind.
