Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Microchipping and the cost associated... Zoey is going in for her spay most likely next friday and I am reviewing the pros and cons of the microchipping. I am a bit hesitant thinking about having something foreign implanted in her body. Now here are some things I wanted to know: 1) cost of implantation 2) cost of database service 3) have you ever lost your dog and had them returned because of the chip? Thanks guys.

| I paid an additional $25 for the implantation at the time of Basil's neuter and then (I think) another $15.95 for the basic registration on the HomeAgain database. I was able to do this part online. Fortunately, I've never had to test it and I hope I never do! Last edited by donatella80; 02-10-2008 at 10:43 AM. | I took Chip to the Petco low cost clinic, I think the total as $40. Which included the implantation, and for them to register it for you. Otherwise the cost to register it yourself would of been more.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | You know what's funny I was at petco yesterday getting one last thing for our GE buddy and there was a line of folks getting shots and probably the chip. If I get it done I will have them do it while Zoey is under at her spay.

| It cost $30 and I would hope I never have to use it but if need be it is there. They registered it for fee. We got ours at Banfield Anial Hospital which is associated with Petsmart.

| Angel's Home Again chipping was $50 at our vet's office, plus a $10 acivation fee and $20 for the year membership at Home Again that includes a 24 hour emergency vet call number. When Sissy was chipped, her's was $20 at the local shelter (Avid Chip). No acitivation fee. I was able to enroll her in the Home Again yearly program for an additonal $10. The yearly program is a fee you pay every year. Once your chip is activited, it stays in the system, but you don't get the other benefits without the membership.

| $50 for the both of mine, done at the Humane Society. No yearly fee or anything. It didn't hurt either of them but Bridget now twitches when I scratch her back in certain places. Like an involuntary movement. She never did that before. And no, I've never lost either of mine.

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Izzy was micochipped with the Home Alone at the time of her spay and total cost just for that was $72.00 but that incuded the registration fees by Home Alone. Well worth it and I did see her chip number when our vet scanned to show me. Two reasons to get while they are getting spayed or neutured..cost is less and only going under once vs. twice. I wouldn't recommend them getting the chip at a Petsmart without anesthetic. Our vet told us it's more uncomfortable on them to insert on the little ones vs. the big dogs without it. I would only have my vet insert the microchip...just my opinion.

| I paid 25 dollars for the chip and 10 dollars to register him. He's tiny, less than 3 lbs and 19 mo. and cost 1100 dollars. I thought it was worth it. My girl is about 7 lbs. and I didn't have her done. I probably wasted my money because they are litterbox trained and just go out for fun on a leash. Also, they are trained to stay and not run out of the house. |

| Kassie's breeder had her microchipped and I assume she is registered but really should dig out her paperwork and check it out.
