| There have been suggestions on this forum to change to a better grade of kibble. Might have to try different kinds before you find the right one. Did that and my puppy-mill doggie quit. Might help. Joanne |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Pixie is a poop eater and I have to be so diligent on picking up poop from the pads and can't always catch her. I had her at the vet this week for her rabies and they gave me Forbid to sprinle on all 4 of their foods and it does something to the taste of poop so they won't want to eat, like my vet said what could taste worse than poop, but I am afraid to start them all on it in case is upsets their tummies. Has anyone used this and does it work, does it upset their tummies?

| With all the snow this winter I noticed my 1 yr old Pom eating some outside (mmmm poopsicles)!! It seemed like a game when he would find one I missed picking up, all frozen buried in the snow. So I purchased some Deter from Petsmart (pill form). I started giving it to him and my Yorkie. It gave them a nasty farty smell in the pm and thier poop smelled real stinky. I go outside with them pretty much every time and pick it up as they go and think I will stop giving them the Deter. If I have to I may put an E collar on my Pom for potty breaks. It didn't really upset thier stomachs I guess, but I noticed a few looser stools and like I said a nasty gassy smell. Last edited by CoCo Puff Stuff; 02-09-2008 at 09:04 AM. |

| Wrigley will do this if you don't clean it out of her litter box fast enough! I think she just doesn't want it in there. Sometimes she actually brings it to you, to let you know! My brothers labs does this with their other two dogs and I know they tried the stuff you put in the food and it didn't work at all.

| Coprophagia (poop eating) is usually thought to be behavioral because very few dog foods don't have enough supplementation. One medical exception to this rule is Pancreatic Enzyme Insufficiency. There are probably others also. You could try changing foods though or add something like Deter. Some people have success with adding pineapple to the food of the pet whose poop gets eaten. Meat tenderizer can also work. If switching food doesn't work if you decide to go that way, it is probably behavioral and very common.
