| Agility Does anyone do agility with their yorkie? I've been thinking of getting Bentley into it as he loves to climb on anything he can and I think he would enjoy it. I'm curious what other's experiences have been and if yorkies do enjoy this type of sport? |

| A post that is music to my EYES! How's this? http://www.mightymitedoggear.com/images/mrbunaframe.jpg Check out my links page under "agility." I've listed sources of information - focusing on small dogs and yorkies. You MUST check out the workingyorkie message board website listed there. Here's a video clip of Mr. Bun and friends in action (although it wasn't one of our finer moments!): http://www.wesh.com/community/3460674/detail.html Yorkies can be great at agility! In fact, a recent Yorkie milestone - Sharon Thompson Edwards Yorkie was the first Teacup Dog Agility Association Teacup Agility Champion! Pam Shelby has a Yorkie who has (I hope I have this right since they are always getting new MACHSs!) Master Agility Chamption (AKC) 3 Yorkie! | Thanks, Yorkiepower!!! I have been trying to find a site with small equipment for Toto! While we were in Lake Charles and had our wonderful trainer come over every week to train Toto, the next thing he was planning was a small course for exercise! We were transferred and didn't get to do it! Here in Colorado we have a small courtyard that we believe might be large enough to build a small one just for Toto to get a little exercise instead of having to walk her in the park across the street! It's a great park but I have noticed that some owners of large dogs let them off the leash to play and chase balls/frisbees. I am uneasy walking Toto on her leash over there ... they are probably great dogs but as we all know ... dogs are unpredictable sometimes! Thanks again!

Will be featuring weave poles for small dog training on my website in the spring. Think agility is a great way to keep your dog in shape but if he's not in shape yet, take it slow and you might want to consider another activity such as swimming or on-leash jogging to get him into shape. You can consider agility like soccer or track and field - or any other human sport. Your dog will be more prone to injury if he's not in shape although the actual activity is a great way to STAY in shape. | |
