| Is Mulitple Yorkies a good idea Ok, the more I am on the forum the more I notice that everyone seems to have more than one furbaby. With as lovable as our Buddy can be I certainly see why, however at 4 1/2 months he can also be a handful. Plus with Buddy being our first yorkie we still have a lot to learn about the breed. Since I am considering a second yorkie, I am hoping you can all fill me in on the pros and cons? Just as some extra info the main reason I am considering a second is 1-because buddy is alone all day while we are at work, so it would give him a companion. 2-he gives me that cute tilted head look and I just want more!! |

| I think it all depends on what you can handle. I currently only have one yorkie...she's three years old, but I've been taking care of my parents yorkie as well for the past couple months. Having two is not really any more difficult than having one..bath time takes longer. However, two PUPPIES at once would be more difficult than having two adults. Also, two puppies = twice the cost. One day I plan to have probably 4 dogs at once

| My husband doesn't know this yet hehehe but I'm going to wait until Samson is about a year old (he's almost 6 mos.) to get another one. I want a playmate for him since we're gone all day too. But I think having him older to 'teach' his playmate the rules like where to go potty, etc. may be easier than going thru the training phase with two young ones. Plus, he's been a gem and I don't want to take any steps backwards on the training (he was fully peepad trained at 4 months! ).

| I have heard that it is better to get them close to the same age so that they will be in the same stages together. Sometimes older dogs don't care for the babies because of their hyperness (sp). That's just what I've heard. Others may have found it to be different. Hope this helps! |

| We recently got our 2nd yorkie. I used more than a year to convince my husband that 2 is better than one. After getting our 2nd yorkie, he couldn't agreed with me more. He is so happy that we have 2. Why? Because we get double the fun, double the joy, double the laugh, double the trouble, too!

| well I was wondering the same thing.. I have 3 at one time but got them at different times. the only problem was getting them to the vet, I couldn't figure a way to take them all together and taking them out since I have never had a fenced in yard. I was quite comical trying to walk 3 on a leash. When I lost them and got shelby I didn't want to try to handle more than one, but now that I have lost him and am looking for a puppy I am wondering about getting 2 and letting them grow up together. I too work all day and right now more than the normal 40hr week. So I am thinking they could keep each other occupied. But I would have to get another queen size bed and put them side by side so there would be enought room for the 3 of us LOL.. I need some opinions as well thanks |

| I am very glad we choose to get a second Yorkie... Chewy loves Sadie for the most part. They play, they snuggle and sleep together... He has liked her from the start. But he gets jealous sometimes and gives us the cold shoulder! It doesn't last long but I feel horrible when he does this. We give him tons of attention and try to make him feel more loved then ever.... I'm sure it is an adjustment for the older yorkie to have a baby brother or sister but worth it in the long run.

| Age and Sex Is it best to get furbabies close in age or have them about a year apart...potty training reasons main concern? How much influence does adding a male or a female dog have? Is it better to have 2 males or one of each-definitely neutered?

| I have not convinced my husband quite yet either, but I think this is all very good advise. If I had to do it over again I would have gotten two at one time so they would have always been together, but now that Buddy is 4 1/2 months I am thinking he will need to be at around 7-8 months before we can add another one. Mostly because the training is going well and I would like to be sure he has it down so he can show the next one the right way instead of two of them pottying in the wrong place. Plus by then it will be warm outside again. I think he will be ok with a puppy, he has been around our big dogs (2 brittney spaniels) some but not a whole lot, we have one outside cat he loves to play with, and he plays well with my inlaws shihtzu. He has unfortunatly learned that when staying at my inlaws house that if he is tired of playing with their dog all he has to do is poop in the floor because their dog will go and hide, and he is free to do what ever he wants. LOL As far as getting another male or adding a female to the mix I am not sure yet. Buddy is not only our first Yorkie but he is also our first male dog, which is becoming an experiance in itself. His stuffed bear has now been appropriately named Mr. Humpfrey..... |

| I think its great but it is a bit more work. I just brought home my 3rd Dorkie lol 2 months ago. The training seemed much easier then with my 2. They learn from each other. I got my first one Jack 3 yrs ago. Then 2 weeks later I brought Mandy home. I think from my prespective I think it was really nice having 2 grow up together. |
