| Acting funny with a toy. Guys, dad brought this home along with a few toys for Rocky. He loves the bone, but is very protective and will bite if I try to take it away. He just stands there with the bone in his mouth, he takes it everywhere. Is this thing any good? |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Read up on toy aggression..it's definitely something you need to stop. Some dogs can get a bit manic with it...to the point of biting someone if they touch (intentionally or unintentionally) their toy that they are obsessed with.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Ok...if it's only playing and he is not actually being aggressive if you take it then it's fine. He wants to play chase.

| OMG My fletcher is toy obsessive... but its not on just one toy, the toy can change randomly and at any time, but he will ONLY play with the one HE picked, you can throw every other toy, squeak them, tease him, he does not care.. he only wants that ONE toy! But on a nicer note, he is not aggressive about it at all... he has never bit, snapped, growled or anything... i can take it away from him w/o him being aggressive... but he'll be obsessed!

| Buddy does the same thing with the medium rawhide and nylabones. He won't bite or growl at me but he tenses up and growls at my boyfriend. He has even nipped him a few times. It is only with these two types of bones. The rawhide sticks or small rawhide bones he doesn't growl or get anxious. I just take the bone from Buddy immediately and put it away. We tried working with him, taking the bone and giving it back immediately so that he sees that my boyfriend isn't trying to steal it from him, but he gets very aggressive with those two types of bones.

| Basil is obsessive with every new toy for a while--sometimes he'll play with one until he nearly exhausts himself. I have to pick it up and put it in a cupboard or on top of something high just so he'll let himself rest. Once I take it from him, he'll walk around on his back legs looking for it for another 15 minutes or so! |

It could be the beginning of guarding. That is exactally how Buddy started! One toy and he would march around the house growling at himself. I thought it was so cute. When he got bigger the growling turned on me! Then we had a major problem. Took a really long time to change this action around. Today it is so much better and he now shares special toys with me. Thank heavens. | |
