| Buying a yorkie online I've been looking on www.domesticsale.com and other sites like that for yorkies for sale.... anyways, most of them would have to be shipped to WI. And I'm just wondering, how do I know if the people that say they will send me one are legit? |

| Welcome to YT. I'm not familiar with that website. You might want to check on here and find a reputable breeder who has pups available. Hopefully someone else can give you some more advice. Make sure you research the breeder, it is really best if you can see the pup in person, the parents & their living environment. You want to make sure you are dealing with a quality breeder & not a puppy broker, backyard breeder or a puppy mill -- a lot of them use the internet to sell their pups.

| I suggest going to www.ytca.org and looking at their breeder list.

| I've been looking at some of the members on here who sell yorkies... but I gotta tell ya.... some of them are so damn expensive. And yes, I realize yorkies can be quite expensive, but I don't intend on shelling out $1500 on a dog, and then $300 to ship to me. lol..... sorry, but I'm a cheap lil' lady, haha. I've found a few that are around $500, and I've seen pics and stuff. I just don't want to send out the money, and then never receive a dog!!! |

| AND ALSO..... I'm talking to a woman right now about getting one from her. and She's basically "giving hers away" for adoption because they don't have room for 4 dogs anymore(shes giving away 2) and then its $300 to ship it to me. she's not a breeder though..... so how would i find out if shes legit about sending me it? |

It's worth it to find a reputable breeder, even if they cost more...it's worth it to know your dog is well-bred and that they parents have been health tested and that you are getting a healthy dog. I'm not saying you can't find a reputable breeder for less than $1000 because I'm sure there are some out there, but yorkies typically cost $1000-$2000

| You do make a good point. Well, what my "plan" was to do with this lady is talk to her on the phone, have her send me her vet and vets number to make sure the dog has its shot, ect...., and ask her to send a copy of her I.D. if she wont, then she's probably a scammer. I know I'm taking a risk, but besides that, anything else you think I should ask? |

| Check out www.fraudwatchers.org That site saved me A LOT of money and heartache when I first started looking for a Yorkie. They have a whole section on pet scams, and are very helpful with any questions you may have. Have you checked Craigslist or petfinder or looked into local shelters or rescues? Those places may be your best bets for finding a Yorkie at a lower price...but be aware that Yorkies do tend to have expensive health problems sometimes.(Just look in the Health & Diet forum) Before my m.i.n. bought Xavier for me we found a lady who was giving her 9 yr old Yorkie away for free on Craigslist. Just keep looking, I'm sure there's a perfect Yorkie out there for you !

| well, I've gone on craigslist and domestic sale. i think flying to see the dog in person is a great idea! instead of paying $300 to ship it, i could pay $300 for a ticket. Im not a fan of flying though, lol. I'll check puppyfinder though. |

| it's not just about making sure that someone isn't scamming you, but you need to be careful about so many health issues with yorkies. You want to do your research and find out as much as you can about the backgrounds of the parents. Now for those older yorkies, they may be past some of the big health concerns that seem to pop up in the first yr or so for yorkies. Sometimes you get what you pay for - I would hate for you to pay $500 up front, but end up with a sickly dog, that costs you another $1,500 at the vet a couple mths down the road. Just read some of the threads in the Sick & Injured section & you will get an idea or what you could be up against. While there is no guarantee that a $1,500 pup won't have health problems, you need to consider what type of guarantee a breeder is willing to provide. Most of the breeders here are good & will give you a health guarantee or a help you if the pup ends up with a health concern. I know others can speak more to this.
