| Dogs Rescued From Breeding House in Lawrence County OMG this story is just incredible!! Those poor dogs!! If you want to see some pictures and a video about the story, click on the link below. http://www.wishtv.com/global/story.asp?s=7786662 LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - Dozens of dogs have been found living in what authorities say were despicable conditions in Lawrence County. The dogs were found in a breeding house, up for sale. Authorities say it was a person who purchased one of the puppies who tipped them off. "The smell was death. It wasn't even a dog smell. It was a death smell," said Lawrence County resident Mary Parkes. Parkes couldn't bring herself to leave a Yorkie Terrier puppy at the house so she bought him, named him Max and contacted the proper authorities. "He was covered in his own urine, feces, other dogs' urine and feces," said Parkes. Authorities say those conditions led to a full blown investigation into the breeder and the trailer she was selling the dogs from. A member of a local rescue group who, while undercover, snapped photos of the facility spoke with 24-Hour News 8. She chose not to reveal her identity because she doesn't want to be recognized. The rescue group member described the conditions inside the breeding house. "Horrible, it was smelly and dirty. There was feces all over the floor." The rescuer's pictures were brought to the Mitchell Police Department. "We obtained a search warrant and went in and served a search warrant," said Mitchell police chief Jim Richardson. With the help of the White River Humane Society, police removed 31 dogs. "They had lice. They had flees. They had some sores on some of the dogs," said Richardson. Meantime, Max has since put on weight and is now doing much better. All of the puppies are in custody of the White River Humane Society. The breeder has yet to be arrested but authorities could still file charges. By: Phil Sanchez WISH-TV White River Humane Society Address: 3511 Pumphouse Road P.O. | Those poor dogs. Thank god the authorities were contacted. It is beyond me how anyone could treat puppies/dogs like that. Maxs momma you are a real hero for doing what you did. Getting those puppies/dogs out of that deplorable condition they were subjected to living in.
