Kozanna Thanks to everyone for the concern and support while little Kozanna Chihuahua went through her spay surgery and I became a basket case. Kozanna is doing great and I'm so glad it's behind us. It's a week today since the spay and Kozanna is running around in the kitchen playing. She got into some mischief yesterday, tore up some newspapers that are down for potty business. I am happy to see this shy little one get into mischief. She also stands at the x-pen that blocks her in the kitchen and whines, wanting my attention. She's acting like a puppy! She gets calmer every day and doesn't run away as often when I reach out to touch her. Sometimes she just stands still and doesn't move. That's progress. She likes to be snuggled up in a blanket and will stand still when I approach her with a blanket and wrap it around her and pick her up. She is very sweet and gives kisses.
I would like some advice on how much to feed her. She weighs four pounds and is 10 months old. I give her Wysong Synorgon small bites, which is what I've fed my Bichons for a long time. I've had her five weeks. I have no idea what she was fed before I got her, of course (she came from a puppy mill). I didn't put her on puppy food and wonder if I should have. I have kept food before her ever since I got her, wanting her to eat, eat, eat, and get strong and healthy. She likes the Wysong and eats good. I put warm water on her kibble for supper, but keep dry kibble before her the rest of the time. Should I start giving her two or three meals a day rather than free feeding? How much do you feed a four-pound dog? Wysong Synorgon is 24% protein and contains mostly chicken and brown rice. The feeding guide says to feed 2/3 cup daily for a 10-pound dog. My Bichons weigh 13 and 12 pounds and they have never eaten more than 1/2 cup a day, mixed with veggies. If I give them more, they leave it in the dish. I give my Bichons yogurt or cottage cheese for breakfast, and this morning is the first time Kozanna has eated cottage cheese. Up until now, she has not eaten it. I hope she will start eating yogurt. It's good for little dog tummies. I don't give many treats to my dogs. Kozanna's tummy got a little out of sorts after her spay, but has settled down now. Would appreciate thoughts on feeding this little four-pound girl. I haven't had one that small for about 40 years! |
