| I don't know if this is a good idea or a bad one, so ASK the med student before you try it. I would worry about an allergic reaction or something. Anyway, when my son broke his arm and his cast got smelly, the doc suggested a fabric dryer sheet slipped into the cast. We chose one that had a baking soda scent and no artificial dyes, etc... Just ask, you never know. Also, you might try putting another smell into the equation...for example, put some vicks vapor rub just under your nose. Maybe that will cover the smell long enough for him to hug and kiss him.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I know when Dixie's kidney's were failing her breath was so bad that her whole body smelled and 3 feet away from her it was awful. I couldnt not let her sleep next to me so I but some doggie cologne on her and wore perfume myself to bed so I could smell that instead of her. Maybe that will help Bleu in between cast changes.

| Gross questions -- what does it smell LIKE? Sweet Bleu--waited all this time to get home and now this. I just couldn't push it to the back of my mind without asking...Does the smell remind you of stinky socks/sweatpants, decaying tissue, or infection? Bleu isn't acting tired or running a fever is he? The wet laundry, stinky sock smell isn't too much of a worry, but you wouldn't want an infection to be festering under the cast. An incision covered by a cast that inevitably gets food and water on it could be a good place for any trapped bacteria to harbor. Just watch for signs of infection. Does it help to use a damp cotton pad and wipe his chin whiskers? Maybe just a dab of something antibacterial in the water on the pad--like listerine? You have a wonderful support system, so I'm sure you will get more professional advice than this. Bleu is so blessed to have you. |

| There is doggy smell spray you can get at pet stores for smelly dogs. You could try that. But if his the cast smells like rotted meat or a garbage dump instead of just stinky locker room smell, you should have it looked at. |

| Good Thursday Morning WOW THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP HUBBY IS HELPING ME SO WE ARE TEAMING UP WE WERE TOLD TO GO AHEAD AND COME IN FOR A CAST CHANGE THIS FRIDAY WE ARE GONNA DO OUR BEST TO WAIT TILL TUESDAY AS THAT WILL BE EVERY 7 DAYS THAT HE IS CHANGED.... THE MAJORITY OF THE SMELL IS HIS FOOD WE THINK ... WE WONT GO THERE HE IS ON THEIR DIET FOR 8 WEEKS WHICH HE IS EATING LIKE A CHAMP DRINKING LIKE A CHAMP WAGGING THAT TAIL AND WELLL WHEN HE GOES OUTSIDE HE TRIES RUBBING HIS LITTLE CAST OFF IT IS THE CUTEST THING YOU HAVE EVER SAW.... I LET HIM DO IT FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS AS I KNOW IT ITCHES AND HE NEEDS TO ITCH IT... HE LOVES GOING OUTSIDE CAUSE HE GETS RELIEF OF SORTS.... OK GUYS WHEN I TALK TO THEM TODAY I WILL MENTION DEFINITELY THE FABRIC SHEET BABY POWDER BAKING SODA SO WE WILL KNOW WHAT YOU CAN AND CANT DO FOR IF WE HAVE ANOTHER CAST CANDIDATE AS WELL. I DO NOT FEEL THERE IS A INFECTION ... IT IS NOT THAT KIND OF SMELL IT IS A SMELL OF FOOD AND WATER ON THE TAPE SO IT SMELLS EXTRA S-W-E-E-T- I MEAN REAL S-W-E-E-T-....... SO ONE DAY AT A TIME.... THE MEDSTUDENT SUGGESTS I JUST FEED HIM 2 TIMES A DAY I AM NOT DOING THAT YESTERDAY HE ATE AT 6 AM 10 AM 2 PM 8 PM AND HE WAS VERY HAPPYYYYY... OK GUYS WE ARE JUST DAY 2 INTO THIS I KNOW IT WILL GET BETTER THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING NOT COMPLAINING BY ANY STRETCH OF THE IMAGINATION IM HAPPY HE IS HOME WITH US SAFE AND SOUND BUT THESE ARE MINOR OBSTACLES TO OVERCOME!
