| Chlorine... I take Bella (13 weeks yesterday) into our pool for a swim about once a week and bathe her as soon as she leaves the water. As well I put a little bit of conditioner on her dry coat before she gets into the water to protect it from the chlorine. Bella loves to swim and I'd like to take her into the pool more but was wondering how often would be safe for her skin and coat. We only bathe her once a week because of the breed's delicate skin and therefore she only goes in before her weekly bath.

I found using Chris Christensen Systems - she never gets dry skin or itchies.....I wouldn't bother putting conditioner on your Bella BEFORE she swims - I would AFTER though - Rinse her off really well after she swims and just condition her ...and rinse THAT off - I give Chanel a full shampoo 1-2 times a week but she's outside and in the water LOTS. Sounds fun - I wish I had a pool | |

| Hey Girl, I know we use to let my parents yorkie swim all the time. We usually waited a day after we put chemicals in before allowing him to swim. Rinsing her off with a mild shampoo after should help keep her PH level. We also set up a little wading pool that he loved. How is Bella doing? I have pics of April(Sapphire). How did the vet go? Drop me a line.

| Maggie swims everyday. I too use the Chrissy System products. When Maggie dries off, I use a little Ice On Ice on her hair. So far, I don't see where swimming has damaged her hair or skin at all.

| Coco's vet said Chlorine shouldn't be bad but every dog is different. He said that at worst, they will be itchy from dry skin and maybe an upset stomach if they drink the pool water. He said as long as a rinse her well and condition her afterwards she should be fine. He said he didn't recommend pool time everyday (loose their natural oils with too much water) but that a couple of times a week should be fine.

| Here's the link. I need to get off of my lazy butt and order some. I keep thinking it's expensive but Linus's hair is really dry and I keep having to go to the groomer so I'm really just being delusional. http://www.chrissystems.com/
