| I cant believe I did this...please help Will try to keep a long story short. It comes out of my mouth almost every day "I dont want any more dogs"! But I still love to go look at Yorkies any chance I get. Well, I must have had some kind of spell or something, cuz level headed me would not have done this! I was just going to peek at this yorkie advertised in the paper...just peek! Male, 2 yrs old, unable to get their female pg. I just about died when I seen him...skinny...matted...so much hair between his pads...poop stuck to his rear end....grrrr! Yep, you got it....ran to the banK and got the cash and bought him with out even calling the hubby (what was I thinking???) He is the sweetest thing!!! He is really good about going out to go potty. But they must have kept him in a kenel most of the time as he acts like he is scared to come out. OK, I can deal with the hubby being mad at me for spending the $$...he will get over it (he is already falling in love with him!!) But what do I do about the marking??? He goes in to be nutered this Friday...is there ANY chance of him ever stoping this??? Please tell me there is! I am just so afraid that hubby wont want me to keep him if it keeps up as bad as it is. PLEASE GIVE ME ALL THE ADVICE YOU CAN....I AM ALREADY IN LOVE AND UNDER HIS SPELL!!! |

| Ahhhh ... congratulations ... God bless you for rescuing! Sounds like this little man needs lots and lots of TLC. I have never owned a male, but from experience with our rescues and reading, they usually either quit or get way better with neutering. Perhaps try bellybands until he is neutered or trained? Please keep us updated on how he is doing. We would love to see pics of him ... what's his name?

He should get better after he's neutered, but don't count on him ever being 100% trustworthy. Bellybands will keep you sane while dealing with him. My Cosmo was/is a marker and I think he always will be. He rarely does it now, but sometimes the urge to claim something overcomes him! You might try the tether method, putting a leash on him and attaching it to you so you can see everything he does. That way you can catch him in the act. Catching him every time and correcting him will help and bellybands will protect your carpet and furniture in the meantime. God bless you for taking this sweetie in and best of luck with him. | |

| Yes neutering should help - BUT - get Bellybands just incase. I had a male rescue once he was 7 yrs old, not neutered and marked all the time. I got him a few bellybands and a few packages of always maxi pads from costco - Solved! He still marked, but the pads collected the pee. I had to use about 3 to 4 pads a day. I only fostered him for 2 weeks. Towards the end he was marking less and less (still not neutered). It was funny seeing him try to mark with the belly band on. Then he would go back and smell for his pee, but it wasn't there, I think that's why he was doing it less and less. When using belly bands though, he shouldn't sit in it all the time. When I was home and playing and relaxing I took off the belly band so he could air out. Also when he slept I took off the belly band. You don't want to cause a rash or discomfort. Best of Luck! |

| I don't have any suggestions for you. But just wanted to tell you how great I think you are for rescuing that dear dog who really needed a good home.

| Bless your heart for rescuing him! He sounds like such a little sweetheart and now he'll have a good life! My only suggestion for the marking problem is belly bands! They are great for saving your carpet and funiture!

| Perhaps the belly bands would help along with taking him outside more often so he doesn't have to lift the leg on your couch? Treats on the spot when he does go outside, perhaps just a cheerio? When you see him mark your couch perhaps take him outside and tell him pipi outside? If all fails, consult with a dog trainer. I believe you can work this out. Congrats on the puppy.

| I would suggest bellybands like everyone else while he is still adjusting to his new environment. Bless your heart for rescuing this poor little guy, it sounds like he was in dire need of it.

| Thank goodness it was you that found him! I'm sure he will eventually adjust and be your special little man. Is he just doing a mark, or a full out pee? Like everyone else suggested belly bands will protect your interiors for now.

| Hey Ms. Nailcorner..I am going thru the same thing..here's my story..and I probably will be critisized by some, but here it goes anyway. Hubby and I dropped off my jeep to be serviced and decided to kill some time by going into the pet store near by..WELL..needless to say, there in this little cage was this matted, scared to death, shaking little boy who was 8 months old..Hubby walked right over to his cage and stuck his finger in it..no sooner did he do this..the poor little guy licked his finger..that was it..as much as I wanted him, I wasn't sure if I could take on another dog..my heart just ached at the sight of him and I knew what had to be done..I of course waited til my baby was in my arms before I let that bitch who cared for him at this store have it ..how could anyone have passed him up for so long..This was back in Oct 07.. Coco is now a full 4lbs -happier then anything..took him a while to come out of his cage..but is fitting right in..my problem however is the marking ..everywhere all over..He will be fixed this coming Monday and Im hoping it works..if not Im gonna just have to deal with it cause he's home for good... |

| Thank you all for the advice and words of encouragement. We are letting him keep his orig name of Harley because he knows it and comes when you call him. My husband wanted to name him Butter....because our other babies name is Peanut! Harley goes out to potty just fine, even in the bad weather. It is just the marking that has me worried. I had my little mixed breed baby fixed when he was a baby and he has never marked...i am soooo scared that this will start him too. He goes into the vet this Friday to get fixed, I am going to ask the vet if he can check for blatter infection because when he marks, the piddle on the pad is VERY YELLOW. He is starting to play just a little....its like he does not know how to, I think he has spent most of his time in his kennel. The only thing that is really starting to pi$$ me off is he is loving my husband to much...grrrr. Both of my yorkies just love him to death....not fair, not fair!!! I think it because I bath, clean eyes, ears, brush teeth, trim feet and butt, put on piddle pads, removed so many matts from Harleys hair I have lost count and HE gives out treats!!! Something might have to change here...lol Thanks again for the help, Kathy-Ut |

| I have a maltese who is 7 years old and he used to mark in the house constantly. I had him neutered in October last year and now he very rarely marks. I must say I didn't expect it to happen so quickly.
