| To all you people who dress your furbutts... How do you keep their hair from matting when they have their sweaters on? Are Gizmo's sweaters too big? As cute as he looks it almost isn't worth it - he hates being brushed/combed actually he doesn't so much hate it as he prefers to eat the brush/comb so de-matting can be a pain in the rear. Any suggestions or should I just give up on the sweaters?

| I'd like an answer to that also. My little JPop matts terribly!

| I think cowboy magic helps so they mat less. It looks kind of greasy when you first put it on but it soaks into the hair and skin and then makes them much easier to comb until the next bathtime. I love it for my 2 little guys. Mine also have a snauzer cut though so their body hair is short. |

| Scooter's mats too. We just have to be sure to keep him brushed. Sweaters seem to be the worst, but even t-shirts are a problem. Oh well, I'd rather have to brush the mats out than have him be cold. I only dress him when it gets cool outside. |

| I comb Haruka before putting her clothes on. Then I also try to comb her right away after taking off her clothes. I make sure to have a couple pieces of cheerios or healthy treats with me to give to her after combing her. If you do that, then there should be less mutts. I also try to buy clothes that have a bigger space on legs... or sleeveless.... If clothes are a little tight side on legs, I usually don't buy them.

| My Pixie is 7 months old and i hardly ever put clothes on her now because of this, maybe a coat/sweater when going out, she even gets matted when wearing her puppia harness! I always brush her before and after wearing clothing and her harness, someone told me to line her clothing with silk? I'm not sure what the answer is to this, i'm thinking it's just the type of coat she has and that i'll just have to accept it! When i mentioned getting a harness for pixie to my breeder she said she "wasn't in favour of harnesses as they ruin the coat" and she gave me a slip lead, like the ones used in the show ring, now i know what she meant!

| oh I also shaved her legs a little bit.... it sounds bad but it doesn't look bad at all. She still has longer hair... and she seems to be happier.. but I didn't shave all the way up.. but it is helping.

| I do the same thing... also, when I bathe her, I use Samy Moisture (it's the red bottle) conditioner and leave it on for about 2 1/2 - 3 minutes... this not only makes her smell great.. but it makes her hair so soft and manageable

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I try to keep Bengi's coat short, this helps a lot, especially on the legs. But if don't want to cut the hair, then brushing before and after would be the only answer. Sweaters are the worst, and you cannot avoid the matting in coats that are not silky when using most clothes. |

| Keep the underarms, groin and inside of the legs cut short. Next you need to find a conditioner that "really" works even if you have to mix two or three things together as I do. Then put the harness on the outside of the clothes if it's causing problems. I buy the silk harnesses made by Chattie's mom and have not had a problem with the mats when they wear only the harness. On colder days when they wear sweaters, I like putting the harnesses on the outside because the silk and the "bling" just dresses things up even more. |

| I keep Momiji's hair shorter so it is easier to comb. After her haircut, I haven't had matt problem and love it. I always put dress on her so less matt is better. I always thought yorkie should have longer hair but now that I have to comb her every day (instead of my mom), I changed my opinion. I will keep her hair short if I want to dress her and if I changed my mind and don't want to dress her then I'll grow her hair. |

| I have the same problem with Rocco's hair around his neck. He is sooo bad about running out of the house that I am insisting on keeping a collar on him with his tags even though he is also microchipped but the collar just matts his hair so bad. And sweaters are the worst thing I can put on him but he actually likes wearing them. Not sure what to do. Also, what exactly is Cowboy Magic? Does it smell good, does the smell last a while and where do I find it?

| The cowboy magic has a pleasant smell. I ordered it on-line but don't remember who from as it was over a year ago. A little bit goes a long way and I ordered a big bottle and only use it once a week. Rocco1: Attached are a couple of pictures of my boys in their snauzer cut. These are from last spring when it was cut really short. The last picture shows how they look now with a snauzer cut and their faces a little longer. I love the cut on them and with 4 dogs I need low maintenance cuts. |
